So then babies are sinning by not knowing any of that?

tainted with sin ..[born of the bloodline of sinful adam as are all mankind(including mary )with the exception of the lord Jesus who was born of the holy ghost not of the blood of adam ] but not yet knowingly guilty of their own sin .

it is why the scripture stets the children are sanctified by the believing parents .. until they reach an age (different for every child what that age is ) of understanding ..then they become responsible for their own actions . this is why it is written" there is none without sin no not one ".. because they do not have to "do a sin" to" have sin" .there is a difference . -

just a post to explain, don't reply here :)

Please don't derail. There's a new thread option in each forum.

What bait and switch? You made a statement that I'm trying to understand. You said I could find mortal and venial sins in the passage I posted. I don't see it. I don't think it's too much to ask for you to explain it so that I, and anyone else reading, can see how you come to your conclusions.

What precisely do you not understand about the distinction between sins that are "unto death" and sins that are "not unto death"?

You said we should distinguish between the two. How do you know which one is which?

Josiah said:
SIN is the spiritual disease..... It is all those things Piper mentioned. It is self-centeredness, self-worship, self-deification. It is a SICK, TWISTED, BENT quality that is part of our new, fallen, "human" nature (that's not TRULY human at all). It is part of who we are from conception.

SINS are the symptoms, the consequence, the display of SIN. If I had a cold (a disease), I'd likely (occasionally anyway) cough, sneeze, etc. - those are SYMPTOMS of the disease. There are symptoms of sin of thoughts/will, word, deeds. Of things done and left undone. Intentionally, knowingly, willfullfully..... or unintentionally, unknowningly, very much oppossed to our will: Makes no difference whether I sneeze willingly or not. Makes no difference if I'm aware my nose is running or not. I still have a cold. And likely, symptoms will be present. But let's say I have a lot of self-control (or perhaps just take a handfull of powerful drugs!) and the symptoms entirely disappear. Do I still have a cold? Yup. Same with sin and sins. This is why it is VERY dangerous to confuse symptoms with disease as the Pharisees did (and a lot of Christians still do), it can lead one to OPINION that THEY are well when they are terminally sick.

Lord, have MERCY.

.

Seems a bit of a different topic, but...

Yes, I believe babies have sin. For several reasons:
1. They die. "The RESULT OF SIN is death" Not unsin. Babies die.... therefore.....
2. We don't "catch" the disease of sin suddenly at some mysterious age of "X" and thus start sinning; we are sinful from conception and first chance we get - display the symptoms of that disease.

Can someone start a thread on babies? That would be great.

Where exactly? Can you give me some reference where it says that a sin is a mortal sin?

Isn't first John enough for you? Do you still doubt that distinction between mortal and non-mortal sins? Is the terminology throwing you? A sin unto death is a mortal sin and a sin that is not unto death is not a mortal sin; thus the broad categories are established. No more need be said, you can search the scriptures for the sins that are unto death and the ones that are not.

So you can't even give one sin unto death, or where to find it. That makes the answer to the question, "no".

If you really wanted to know you'd be searching for yourself.

If you really knew, you'd answer, especially in light of your critique of the OP.

Since you're unwilling to search the scriptures for yourself it is obvious that there isn't much motivation behind your request.

I will be more than willing to look at any scripture you provide. But we both know you won't produce anything to back up your position. Instead you'll continue to make it appear as if there's some sort of deficiency on my part.

How about you do the search for yourself? Is that too much to ask of you?

It is a deficiency on your part. You say you want to know, you have a bible so why don't you search the scriptures yourself?

I didn't know asking questions was a deficiency. But I do know when someone can't provide scripture to back a position and when they are deflecting.
