That's what I was thinking when I read the title of the thread... I liked it that I could cook, eat, shop for new clothes, fill the car with gas, go to the dentist, etc... all without having to be the one to balance the chequebook at the end of the month.

Other things I miss: skipping rope, somersaults, teeter-totters, not caring what I looked like in a swimsuit, climbing trees, running with my dog, the ability to laugh and enjoy myself uninhibited...

Being protected from reality.

If you need money, you go to the bank.

If you need food, you go to the store.

No sense of there only being so much money in the bank, no sense that "go to the store" doesn't work unless you've got the money to pay the store (because, as every child knows, if you want more money you go just to the bank and get some).

Life was easy then. Life can be complicated as an adult.

Being able to eat anything... and as much as I wanted..... I can hardly believe what I ate as a kid and teen! I have no idea how I was skinny! I'm still fairly slender but I have to WORK at that now, and have to watch carefully what I eat (and especially how much).

I can eat now more than when I was a kid! LOL

I miss playing outside until the street lights came on!

I miss the care free days. Not having to worry about things when you have your parents around to carry the burden. :)

I miss being able to run and play and carry on all day without a thought for consequences and without getting very tired ... one recovered so fast from being tired as a child :)

Thinking that M&Ms were better than money because you could eat them.

Knowing that whatever you broke you could get it fixed by gathering up the parts (in whatever condition) and handing them over with the words "Daddy mend".

Knowing that all the money I had was mine, I didn't have to fill in a form at the end of the year to figure out how much the government was going to take away.
