What do you like most about the church you attend?

This is meant as a positive thread to give us a chance to tell each other the positives we see in the church we attend.

I like how the church I attend reaches out and helps others. We have a big emphasis several times a year where we try to mobilize all of our church into serving. I think that is a big reason we are growing.

I like the pastor's sermons for the most part also.

I like that the church I attend is liturgical and conservative and that the pastor properly distinguishes between Law and Gospel in his sermons. The people are mostly older and they're all very nice! I had people coming up to me telling me they were praying for me daily and that almost made me cry. So sweet!

Our pastor's calling is teaching and you can tell he puts a lot of thought into his sermons. It's really helped my wife, mother and sister who aren't the theology nut that I am. :disgonbegood:

I agree. If it's solid preaching and consistent theology, Lutherans are among the best. If it's something else (like dignified worship or enhanced fellowship or mysticism or social action) it would be some other denomination.

It's interesting to me how it is that a church can hit the right notes for one person...but not for the next one who finds what he needs in a different denomination.

One other thing I'd like to mention is that even though we shouldn't go to a church based on feelings, the past 2 churches I've belonged to I knew instantly that it was where I was supposed to be.

When you're bless with several choices in congregations as many of us are then holding out for the best fit over all can be the best way to go. The fact our congregation is also friendly added to my wife's attraction to keep attending which paid off in the long run.

Reasons (sort of in order)

1. Sound, biblical theology (by far, the most important thing)
2. Missional. It "gets it" that we are here to go and make disciples... Takes Great Commission seriously.
3. Loving. There's genuine, caring, embracing, unconditional love... Takes Great Commandment seriously
4. Liturgical, good worship and now weekly Sacrament....
5. Good sermons, good pastor
6. Close, friendly, caring.
7. Embracing, non-judgmental.

3) Great balance of age groups and ethnicity.
4) Worship is holistic, meaning every word and deed is worship oriented.

It's a great and healthy thing for the whole church when the pastor is well prepared when he preaches and teaches

I will add that my church celebrated its 150th year of ministry two years ago. The history of faithful servants is a blessing that fits with Hebrews 12:1.

What I like best about my church is, I think, the beauty and dignity of the worship service. Liturgical worship appeals to me in general, but even among the churches that continue to use the historic liturgy, the wording and how it is done in general strikes me as more uplifting in Anglican churches.

I wanted to think about this question so I could give a more complete answer than I would have done just typing off the cuff.
Things I love about my church


1: Biblical and Confessional teachings are faithfully adhered to.
2: We have complete accessibility to our pastor and elders ( that came to mind yesterday as I was leaving a private Confession and Absolution).
3: The church is small, so we are all at least acquainted with each other.
4: The worship is liturgical and very beautiful.
5: People are welcoming and eager to help others in need.
6: Everybody has a role to play in this church: there are few people who are just pew- sitters.
7: Our pastor strongly emphasizes the Theology of the Cross, that suffering and endurance is a basic fact of Christian life.
8: I have to say that the Oktoberfest in our particular parish is one event that certainly seems to draw in the neighborhood.
9: We have a fairly good outreach program and our parish itself reflects the diversity of the LCMS.

I like that the church I attend is Christ-centred, liturgical, doctrinally sound, and very liberal. It fully accepts LGBT people (including marrying them), and is the friendliest church I have ever attended.

I like the pastor's sermons for the most part also.

This is a tricky one for me to answer because there's a lot I like about my church.

I like the pastor's sermons. I don't always get a lot out of every single one but it's rare there isn't something in his sermon that makes me think.

I really like the serving mentality within the church. It's very rare for a need within the church to go unmet, even down to little things like visiting people when they get home from hospital, making meals for parents of newborn children and the like.

I like the liberty in my church to praise God the way the Spirit wishes to move in you. I love the sermons because they are for the most part adlib by the Spirit (inspired) and flow completely in accord to my intellect (not so much into hebrew etymology lessons and historical approaches) they are simple and direct, not too much damnation 'talk' but more salvation, revival and renewal in Jesus 'doing'... (Not as works though btw lol)
