What would you do when it's 3 am you're dead tired and hotels are all around $120 a night with 11 am checkout? Pay it?

No just walk home or rent a bike. If it was in some dangerous country then yes I'd pay it.

I would get the room. I can set my alarm for 10:30 and be out of there in time.

I am assuming two things--

1. this is an unusual situation for you or whoever we're talking about, not something that happens every other Saturday night.

2. You're nowhere near your own home.

So, pay it and be thankful that there's any available refuge under the circumstances. Then put the episode into the past.
