I always wanted to be an artist since I was young like maybe 7? I went to art school and was a graphic artist for a while. I do pet portraits but because of my current job I've had to turn down the last 3 commissions due to lack of time.

I'm not sure I have figured that out yet. It's curious to be talking among friends of a comparable age and asking each other "what do you want to be when you grow up?".

I'm still trying to figure out my life. What God wants me to do with it.

After 47 years I still don't know what I want to do with my life. I seem to bumble through it somehow.

Being involved and helping people make me happy, I was thinking more along the lines of work than anything else. I also love the outdoors

Doing more community service is actually good for people mentally and emotionally. It turns our thoughts away from ourselves and we focus on helping others which is always good!

When I was 6 or 8 I said I wanted to start a shop to sell cards and sell them for 1 cent so everyone would buy mine.
Well that's what I do. Not cards for birthdays, but maps and it's all for the people who work there so it costs them nothing.

The great thing about life is that you don't have to stop at one! When I was in high school, I wanted to be a social worker and work in adoptions. But I did not like school much, and I did not want to move away from my hometown to attend college for 4 years, so I didn't. I worked as a cashier. Then later as a secretary, clerk, receptionist, data entry clerk.... then I had my son and my husband ran away from home. I needed to support my son so I went into nursing and worked in long term care. Then I had an accident and had to retrain - I retrained as medical office assistant and then nursing unit clerk, but it was not for me, so I decided on spa management. I loved that! Then my ex broke my hand and I lost all my clients. By that time I was 40 and figured it was time to get my life together. I moved away and became a social worker. Since then, I have worked in child protection, for the MS Society, in employment readiness, and now I teach a parenting program.

Just today I found out my union is going to sponsor me to go for a post-degree diploma in mental health and addictions. I start in September. Full time work, full time school....it's going to be busy, but I am excited about it!

At what age did you figure out what you wanted to do with your life?

Young. In my teens - perhaps 12-13? I remember playing basketball with a friend of mine, and we were discussing the subject. I remember saying "whatever I do, it's going to be creative." So did I, and am I? Yes. For money at the moment? No. My folks were not happy about what I wanted to do when it became more specific (music in particular), primarily because they didn't see it as practical or sustainable - can't raise a family being one, you're not likely to make a sustainable living at it, etc. That's partly true, generally, and for me, specifically because I'm too introverted most of the time. That's something I've long thought I need to change to a degree. People enjoy and have enjoyed some of the music I write and play, but I'm not a fan of the spotlight, and I'm not sure I could handle the pressure of fame. Maybe I could, I don't know. I see very successful musicians in interviews, on camera, and sometimes it's obvious they are saying or doing things to people please, it comes across as false, but they do it to increase their fan base, or they do/say things for fear of their fan base. It seems that is their prison? Perhaps for some.

So I do what I want. And I work doing something else for $$ - enough to sustain me. But what I do, I do for free, because I LOVE IT. Doing it for a living would be nice, but for the reasons above I'm sure it has it's own pitfalls. I'm not going to stop doing what I love, because I've been doing it already nearly my whole life for (with a few exceptions) - no monetary compensation whatsoever.
