1. BOTH candidates ran their elections according to the rules - by how our Constitution sets forth. BOTH candidates - being smart, knowing and ACCEPTING how we do things, desiring to win, following the example of all 59 prior presidental elections - ran to win the electoral college vote. Clinton did, Trump did. Trump won. IF (big word there!), IF the rules were different, they BOTH would have ran very different campaigns. For example, Trump had no campaign in California (the most populous state in the union), and spent very time time or money here (it's a blue state these days). So we have NO WAY TO KNOW what the popular vote would have been in California if there had been a campaign here. Hillary didn't campaign in several states AT ALL - knowing she either didn't need to (she'd get the majority even without campaigning) or would loose there anyway. THUS, we have no way to remotely guess what the national popular vote results would have been IF, IF, IF the rules were different and thus the campaigns on both sides would have been different.


2. It's just silly for the Clinton folk to cry over their loss - and blame OTHERS for it. When I was just a little boy, playing Little League, I learned the lesson..... you play by the rules THAT ARE..... you play your best..... and you likely are going to loose sometimes. Life. You shake the hands of the boys on the other side, you go all have pizza together, and then your team discusses with the coach what you need to work on for the next game. I think some need to grow up. They need to learn what they should have learned as little boys and girls. It's SILLY to cry and whine about "But I don't like the rules that I agreed to and that I also played by.... boo hoo, boo hoo!" Grow up.

The time to fix rules that unfairly skew the results such that they consistently favor one side is before the game is played, not after. The damage has been done again, and there's nothing we can do about it. Hopefully this electoral college nonsense will be abolished so that future elections aren't ruined by it. Let the people in the USA who value democracy work to make congress and the states amend the constitution so that blatant corrupt gerrymanders are illegal. The nation is intended to have government of the people by the people and for the people. Non-violent civil disobedience is a powerful tool to end tyrannies such as the tyranny of the people by corrupt politicians.

My AUSTRALIAN friend...

Let the people of Australia who value democracy work to make their government of the people, by the people, for the people - finally electing their PM by direct majority vote of all the people, finally electing their queen by direct majority vote of all the people.


Question, my Australian friend..... Every few years, do all citizens elect the Queen by direct majority vote of all people - no distinction whatsoever as to whether the voters live in Canada or Australian or New Zealand or UK but all voting in ONE election all with equal votes in determining who serves as your king/queen? How often is that election, how often do the citizens of those countries get to vote on that office? Every 2 years (like our Representatives)? Every 4 years (like our President)? Every 6 years (like our Senators)?

Both candidates ran by the rules - as spelled out in the Constitution of the USA. They accepted the rules and played by the rules. BOTH of them had one singular goal: to win a majority of the Electors in the Electoral College. NEITHER of them ran campaigns to win the national majority of votes because that's not what the rules call for, not how we AMERICANS select our president (just as it's NOT how Australians select their PM or Queen).

THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW what the popular vote would have been if Trump and Clinton had run different campaigns under different rules for a different mode of election. It is very possible Trump would have run the popular vote, there's no way to know because that's not the campaign EITHER of them ran, not the objective of EITHER of them.

Irrelevant.

The popular vote is not how we elect our presidents and it's not how ANY candidate runs or conducts their campaign. BOTH Trump and Clinton designed everything to try to win a majority of the electoral votes NOT the majority of the popular vote. So the popular vote is irrelevant; and we have NO WAY to know how the popular vote would have turned out had their been different rules and thus different campaigns by both candidates.


Question: What was the popular vote of all registered voters in Australia as to whether Elizabeth serves as your queen? What was the popular vote of all registered voters in Australia as to whether Malcolm Turnbull serves as the PM of Australia?

No more relevant than it was the last bunch of times you posted the vote count. The brutal truth is that you can't change the rules of the game after the game is over. The rules for the election were based on the electoral college and, assuming none of the electors throw a cog in the works, Donald Trump is going to become the next President.

If enough people want to change the rules between now and the 2020 election that might be fought under different rules. For now, it makes no difference. It just looks like a case of sour grapes.

I'm not seeing too many people wanting to change the electoral college except for those who are having a difficult time accepting Trump as President. If it were to be changed I do believe there would MORE people out voting because they couldn't rely on their state to carry them in the way they expect.
