Stand for the National Anthem?

The news in the US tells us of people protesting racism and oppression with their refusal to stand for the national anthem.

Does your country have any disciplines in place for people who do not stand for you anthem? I found this article useful:

Huh? What? Discipline for not singing the Wilhelm from Orange, goodness no thankfully not. Better not use disciplin, they all love to sing it with international soccer matches. And everything gets orange, last name of the king is Orange.

I would never want to see any form of punishment given to people for not standing when a national anthem is played.

I think it is disgraceful but it is their right, I also think that playing in the NFL is a privilege and not a right so I would not be opposed to them not being allowed to play in the leaugue until they feel they can stand for it

What's your national anthem? I don't even know the anthem of America. Lol one American guy on cf singles really got mad if people said they wanted to live in Australia or something. Why not America? America is the best! Ungrateful people!! Love it. Especially for him I posted Ray Charles' 'America the beautiful', but I don't even know if that's the national Anthem.

I don't see why standing for the National Anthem is such a big deal. If this NFL guy doesn't want to stand he is free to not stand - the people who fought to preserve his freedom fought to preserve the freedom to not stand as well as to stand. I don't think very many veterans would say they signed up to force people to do things they didn't want to do.

That said the NFL needs the people far more than the people need the NFL. If the NFL stopped playing football games the people would move on to something else. If the people stopped paying silly inflated prices for anything that was authorised by the NFL the players (and associated team staff, management staff etc) might have to go and do something useful for a living instead.

Football isnt going anywhere and as for needing these guys, there is a lot of talent out there, so lets let them be free not to stand at home rather than being role models in the NFL

It probably isn't going anywhere, unless they upset a critical portion of their fan base and the fans start boycotting. If that ever were to happen I bet the requirement to stand for the anthem would be handed down so fast it would leave peoples' heads spinning. It would be interesting to see if the players so keen to make a stand would continue to make a stand if it would get them fired.

I always stand for the national anthem in public, remove my hat and place my right hand over heart. However, I respect the right of others not to stand if they so choose, no matter who they are.

We have no law in the US but we do have a flag code which states that people "should" stand. Not must stand but should. I suppose that when I see people not standing I think of them first as being disabled. If I know they're doing it to make a point, then I just automatically in my mind see them as being purposely disrespectful to put attention themselves and their cause which isn't going to get a nod from me through their disrespect. But that's my opinion.

When I was a substitute teacher the anthem was played every Monday morning before classes began and all the students would rise and face the flag in the classroom and have their hands over their hearts. I wonder what I would do if there were any who would sit in refusal and not because they couldn't stand? Most likely they'd catch flak from other kids around them

As a vet I find this disgusting although the issue they are highlighting I agree with. As I said they have every right to do it but they do not have a right to be in the NFL so I hope that eventually they will be given the choice to stand or be fired, right to protest but no right to be in the NFL

I am from Australia not the USA

Australians do not put hand to heart when the national anthem is sung. That appears to be a USAn affectation demanded of politicians.
