I'm going for a longer walk this morning. My wife has a couple of things she wants to do so I'll walk further and faster.

Got a run in today, the first one for a week. I had some kind of virus that left me tired, so I didn't get to run this month until today. Then this afternoon my wife and I went to a brewpub we don't visit all that often, and had a nice afternoon. We like this place but it feels like it's a bit of a trek (it isn't actually very far, it just feels like a trek). They had a couple of really nice beers on tap, but only one of them in cans. I tried both on draft, my wife tasted both and we liked them both, so brought some home with us.

It's soupy outside!!! No activity for me outdoors so I am doing some chores and will relax except for walking in front of the tv to get my steps in. I can't wait for Autumn to come this year. I'm tired of all this mugginess.

Having an iced Americano outside in downtown Langley and watching the intoxicated folks at the pub across the road. It can be entertaining :D

Won't that keep you up at night drinking coffee so late?

Another run this morning, then some errands, then some more work on the wall in the house. Now I've got an extra stud removed because I needed to get my ladder into play, a piece of insulation cut and fitted, and another piece of insulation cut and ready to be trimmed and fitted. Then I just need to address whatever random shape remains at the top, and think about how to put the studs back. That could be interesting.

Not really. I drink coffee well into the evening and get to sleep okay. I'm (relatively) used to it, although I get a sour stomach from it at times

Oh, what crap the last few days have been.

A few nights back, I bought a cask of wine, drank too much of it then before I went to bed managed to trip over something and fall. My fall was broken by the small of my back on a brick. I'm a fairly large (tall) guy and it's true what is said about the bigger they are...the harder they fall. The next morning it became a huge issue just to stand up/sit down/walk the pain was so bad. Today is the 3rd day since that, and it's still bad. There's things I want to do and can't because I can't bend over to pick things up.

Since then I've sworn off alcohol again, specifically remembering this experience. Long story short, I'm doing less than ever until I can.

6'4 here, and I get it. I also have high arches, bad knees, and some nerve damage in my legs, so I'm trip prone and lose balance at times. It is a long way down and I don't go down gracefully

Hoping you recover quickly!

Speaking of alcohol.... had a really good night out with my wife at our favorite brewpub, seeing a local band playing and checking out a new beer. Usually I have a few different beers but the new one was really good and I ended up drinking a few. My wife was driving home, so I didn't need to worry about that.

... also been finishing off fitting insulation panels on a wall in the house. I've got most of it done now, so now I need to add some shims so the sound proofing material I want to install over the top has a little bit of wiggle room to help deaden the noise from the road. Then my wife and I need to make some final decisions regarding just what we want to do with the space - we've got a second staircase that we're debating whether to keep or lose. If we keep it then it takes up space but gives us a few options going forward. If we lose it we gain the space but lose options.

Ow! Are you icing the area? Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation? I hope you feel better soon! That sounds awful.

I got my room insulated and shimmed. Then I got the last few spaces in the room below insulated - this was just cutting offcuts to fit into the spaces between ceiling joists and wall studs.

The most recent project is rebuilding a wall. The old wall had a very old frame for a sliding pocket door but we're not going to want to use it. The studs were visibly bowed in places and trying to figure out how to shim it to drywall it left me scratching my head in so many ways. I considered installing buddy studs, where I'd bolt a new stud against the old studs, but still had problems with the huge beam across the top of where the door once went. So in the end I decided to dismantle the wall completely and replace it. It took a bit of doing because there are two faces to the wall, both of which have their own studs. There's a beam about 12" down from the primary support beams that didn't seem to do anything, but studs from both sides were nailed to it.

So far I've got the door frame almost entirely removed, most of the studs removed, and new studs cut and fitted to replace them. It's been slower than I expected because I can't be entirely sure this wall isn't load bearing, so I've been taking everything very slowly and making sure not to remove more than a couple of studs at a time without putting something else in to replace them, even if only temporarily. I have four more studs to fit, and three more studs to remove. But the doorframe is gone, and that's the main thing.

My new wall is now finished, at least from a framing perspective. All the old studs are removed and the new ones are cut and secured in place. Now I need to shim out a door frame because I want to put a door in there, and pull down and replace another stud wall. At least I know this stud wall isn't bearing any weight from above so I can be a little more ruthless with it.

I've got a bunch of long 2x4s that I salvaged from when I took the ceiling down that I can use to rebuild the room. I wasn't sure what use I'd have for them when I saved them, I just knew that throwing away 10-12 foot long 2x4s seemed like a silly thing to do. Now I have a use for at least most of them. It just means I can't put my big miter saw away just yet.

I think the biggest challenge of framing this wall will be making sure that the bar across the floor and the bar across the ceiling joists are directly above each other. Once I can get that sorted getting everything else in place should be easy enough. I'll also need to make sure that framing the archway is done right, because I've got nice wood side pieces to fit around it. If the arch is a little shorter than at present I can trim the wood but if it's a little taller it's less trivial to correct it.

I slept in until 7:30 this morning. I'm still not fully awake. I'll surf a while and try to wake up before deciding what to do today.
