I used to race the snowblowers too back at our other house. It's just that now you hear more about heart attack snows so it's always in the back of my mind.

The news about people having heart attacks while shoveling snow is something to make you stop and think. Even if the heart attack isn't fatal, a fall onto an icy driveway isn't going to do anything to help.

I have a very good friend who fell on the ice and hit her head. She lost her taste buds sense of taste!! So be careful out there, it can happen to anyone.

Good evening everyone! My nephew just left with Jordan. It was fun having him here. Now I'm watching AGDQ and snuggling with Peanut.

I went to church this morning and now watching the Redskins and Jacksonville playing in the NFL. Looks like Redskins may win this one

Lazy day. The children did their Christmas show at church this morning. It was really well done. Curiously a collection of under-10s managed to be easier to work with on the microphones than the adult leading the congregational singing.

Then a lazy afternoon. Comfort food for lunch, then a nap in my recliner, and now I'm debating whether to go hang out with a friend for a couple of beers or write some code. I kinda fancy hanging out over a couple of beers but don't know if I really want to drive.

Did you end up going out?

No, given the choice between going out in the rain for a couple of beers, and staying home to finish off the bottle of red wine we opened last night with friends and watching some TV with my wife, staying home won.

Maybe I'll go see my friend tomorrow evening. Today I need to start dsmantling my plumbing. I hope I can fix it today.... until I fix it the toilet drips, but if I start and can't finish I don't have a working shower until it is done.

The valve I wanted to replace is stuck fast and I need something with a lot more leverage to break whatever seal is holding it. Sadly because it's in a confined space anything that would offer that kind of leverage is unlikely to fit in there at all. So I left that valve, and pretty much just accept it doesn't work properly. I needed to turn off the previous valve to work on it, so while the water was disconnected I figured I might as well fix the toilet even if I can't fix the defective valve. The valve I wanted to replace leaks water, but only into the pipe. The valve I needed to replace leaks water onto the floor.

Now the leaky valve is replaced, the toilet seems to be working as expected, and no sign of water on the floor as yet. I've left a drip tray in place just in case, but hoping that this time tomorrow it will prove unnecessary. Not sure why it started leaking, maybe it's just old and worn out. I can sympathise with that.

8 hours on and no signs of any dripping from the toilet. Hopefully that means all is good.

Debating whether to spend some time doing battle with brickwork or doing battle with software.

Curiously yesterday afternoon I went to the hardware store to get some pipe clips so I can secure a heating pipe that sags under its own weight, and ended up chatting to one of the staff there (this is nothing unusual). It turns out he's done a load of the plumbing work I want to do, so as an unexpected bonus he chatted with me about that for probably 20 minutes. There's a reason I always choose that particular hardware store. He gave me some really useful pointeres regarding replacing my plumbing with PEX, as well as replacing my heating pipes.

Just checked the drip tray under the toilet that I fixed yesterday. Not a drop. And so endeth the era of the dripping toilet, and there was much rejoicing.
