I barely made it on time for mass this morning, arrived at 9:28 for a 9:30 mass. But after mass there was lunch with friends at a local pub. That was nice.

My church sometimes starts late so you would have been early for mine :D

Nearly missed church this morning. One of our toilets has a slow drip from the water tank and I've been trying to figure out what it was. In the end I just drained the tank and turned the valve off. Except this morning it was dripping again - apparently turning the valve off isn't enough to stop water feeding the tank. By the time I'd dealt with that and showered I had to get dressed in a hurry, drove up the road a little faster than I should have, and when I arrived at church the main meeting room doors were closed. Rather than just walk on in and be disruptive, I waited until the first song and snuck in. I'm glad I did - I wasn't thrilled by the song selection today but the sermon was good.

Now I'm thinking about what I need to do with some software I'm writing and a couple of web sites I need to get working.

Got a tricky aspect (tricky to me, anyway) of a web site fixed up. I needed to be able to serve an image file using my own scripts while denying users the right to navigate directly to the image, or to hotlink to the image. It took a bit of battling with permissions but it looks like I got it. Now I can get my site back up and running, and hopefully put some surplus stock into a local consignment store before Christmas.

Getting the rest of my site sorted out. I also got some login codes that I needed for another piece of code I need to get working. With the right login credentials it's more likely to work.

Out to one of the local reserves this morning for some outreach. Made the bacon for their weekly pancake breakfast. Many were grateful :)

Web work is mostly done now. The other piece of code is proving tricky. I've got a function to call that's externally defined and all I get is the same error code regardless of what I feed it. Running out of ideas before I send it back to the support department to figure out.

I spent two hours shoveling snow out of my driveway today and has three counseling sessions online. I feel really good about some new clients I have gotten lately.
My back is going to be killing me tomorrow from all that bending and lifting with the snow shovel.
My son broke a bone in his toe so he couldn't help me. He broke it a few days ago doing something unrelated.

Snowblower? Flag down a neighbor who has one?

Up and out of bed. Snuggled with Peanut for a few hours. Going to eat breakfast then take my meds and something for my head.

Snowblowers are fun but only work if there's somewhere suitable to blow the snow to. Since they pretty much grab everything from ground level and throw it pretty hard if you have a driveway with houses either side they often aren't very well suited to the job - you don't want to risk throwing bits of stone at your windows with any force, especially if it's cold enough to snow enough to be using a snowblower.

I've been looking at much smaller scale versions. You can get things that are called snow throwers that run on batteries or mains power. They don't have anywhere near the power of a gas-driven snowblower, but that can be a good thing if you just want to throw the snow from the middle of the driveway to the edge of the driveway rather than sending it airborne to land 30-40 feet away. They are pretty cheap too - a mains powered one is maybe $120 - and the reviews I'm reading are pretty good overall.

Debating whether to attempt a plumbing job myself or pay someone to do it. In theory it should be simple, and I spent an hour or so yesterday tracing pipes to try and make sense of a room in my basement that looks like someone tried to blow up a pipe factory. It's always interesting seeing a bathroom from below the floor, trying to figure out which bits are what.

Eventually I figured out which tap I need to close to isolate the part I want to work on. The downside is that the same tap also shuts off the water to the shower and to the kitchen sink. At some point I want to rejig everything to use a water manifold so I can do things like isolate the shower without turning off the toilet, but that's a larger job than I want to be attempting today. That's the sort of thing I'd probably look to do a piece at a time - get the manifold in place and then transfer item by item to the new feed. Separating out the parts of the shower room involves crawling into a desperately small space and I'd really rather not be doing that when it's either very cold or very warm. Interestingly, under the floor of the shower room I can see the stone steps that used to lead to the back door, before the house was extended. Lots of history in this house.

I don't have one. This snow storm is relatively rare. We don't usually have this much snow.
My neighbor did have a snowblower and I was faster than him with my shovel

I used to race the snowblowers too back at our other house. It's just that now you hear more about heart attack snows so it's always in the back of my mind.

At a training I was rather looking forward to, but it's really quite dull and full of information I already know. This s day two. At least I'm getting paid, but it's an hour drive from home :/
