Got the grass cut. It was pretty long so I had to prop the back of the mower open, although not as far as in the past. That means I got sprayed from the knees down rather than from the head down. Then I set about fitting the new handles to my storm doors. I've got five of them done so far, the sixth got put on hold because it started raining and I didn't feel like finding myself in a place where I couldn't secure the door. That particular door is between outside and an enclosed porch, so if the door doesn't open there's no security to the porch at all.

Now I'm sitting in my recliner about to watch Smokey and the Bandit. Tonight's job is more IT related excitement. I'm in the process of dumping one of my service providers because they have proven themselves to be about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. So I need to move everything from their service to a new service.

I think my email accounts are now fully set up as they should be. I had a major outage with my hosting provider which meant I had to reconfigure everything from scratch and hope I got it all. The main stuff is there.

Some software writer ought to make it really really easy to transfer all your email account information from one PC to another.

It's not all that hard to transfer from one PC to another. Transferring from one IMAP server to another is more complex.

Hoping the streets aren't too flooded for the drive to church.

Thinking I may get to take advantage of an afternoon that isn't sweltering hot to do some work in my attic. That will be nice.

I'm planning on going to the gym later after maybe watching some football. I'm a little concerned that Hurrican Florence is aiming right at the Carolinas

Are you in the path or will you be far enough away to only receive some rain and wind?

Good service at church, now about to have a coffee and decide whether to spend the afternoon lifting boards in the attic or rewriting my web site to use the new version of PHP. Or maybe a bit of both. It's nice to finally have some weather that doesn't leave me pouring sweat within half an hour. Next jobs are lifting floorboards in the attic and taking down a ceiling. I may focus on the attic because then I can lift some of the nasty cellulose insulation and start getting rid of it. Our garbage is collected first thing tomorrow morning, so it gives me chance to put the first ba of it out. The trouble with the cellulose is that it takes up lots of space but weighs nothing. Maybe I'll accumulate a bunch of bags of it, then take it to the landfill along with the next consignment of rubble from when I get to the lath-and-plaster ceiling that needs to come down. Seems like a nice win-win.

Our threat here should be mainly rain and wind. I'm more concerned about being able to get to all the schools I go to if trees are down.

The decision is in. I lifted a bunch more boards in the attic. It's slower work than is ideal, not least because as I lift the floor I end up with less and less space to move around, and still need to find somewhere to keep the boards I'm lifting. Some of them are 15 feet long so moving them around isn't a trivial process. It's probably going to be easier to haul the 100lb of my table saw up three flights of stairs to the attic, than it is to shift that many boards that long down to the basement.

On a positive note I traced another cable. I should have realised what it was when I first saw it but missed a key aspect of how the house is wired. I also figured that four boards waiting to go into the crawl space work more or less perfectly as temporary flooring to cover over the gaps I've created by lifting floorboards. So it's not a total death trap in the attic, not yet anyway :)

Wondering why our power kept going out last night when it wasn't storming and no wind at the time. It messed up our cable box upstairs and I'm trying to reset it.
