Go listen to a real boring teacher, German or something. I'd always fall asleep during those lessons.

Not me. My 'German' instructor was cute. I enjoyed the lesson on profanity (yes, really!)

Just finished a load of yard work. Mowed and edged the grass, cut a bush back to the ground for winter, and started ripping out some weeds that have grown out of control. They are on a strip that Ithought my neighbor owned but having found a post marker it looks like Iown it. Which would explain why my neighbor hasn't kept it under control.....

Took another 500lb of trash to the landfill. Mostly plaster and drywall trash. I was expecting it to weigh in somewhere around maybe 300lb so was quite surprised to see the final total. Now I've got space ready to pull down some more, although most of the wrecking is done for now. Next up is rebuilding, then comes the fun of wrecking the rooms we currently use. That could be interesting....

Oh yes, most of it was rubble and drywall. Last trip to the landfill was a whisker over 1,000lb. I just got cleaned up after pulling down some more, probably about 60lb. They say the devil is in the detail, having thought I had most of it sorted out I'm realising that even in the fairly narrow strips that are left (mostly over head height, that I need a ladder to get at) there's a fair chunk of rubble.

Next up is to talk to the nice people at the building office to find out what the building code says about my proposed insulation solution. Sadly my preferred product may not be an option - the guy I was dealing with hasn't replied to my emails in weeks. The bad news is that it means slightly lower insulation and a more flammable product. The good news is that the alternatives are much cheaper - potentially as little as half the price. I'd rather have the more expensive product - the increased cost is a one-off and the gain in insulation is ongoing - but if I can't find it in stores and the main sales guy isn't going to answer questions like "how do I place an order?" and "what forms of payment can you process?" I may not have much option. Naturally I need insulation in place before it starts to get cold again...

You mean newspaper is no longer acceptable insulation? LOL When my parents redid their old home there was newspaper in the walls!

Most of my house doesn't even have newspaper. There's cellulose in parts but not others (and curiously some of the internal walls have bits of insulation while external walls have bits with no insulation).

Even newspaper would be better than what we have now. Aside from the fact it's good nesting material for pests and it burns.

Playing solitaire, then having another look at my group curriculum I was working on a few weeks ago. I'm glad I stepped away from it. With a fresh mind it still looks all cluttered. Too much 'stuff'. I'll need to pare it down even more. We'll probably have our first run in about a month or so.

Mentally bracing myself for an onslaught of bills. Rapidly coming to the point where I stop pulling things down and start putting things back up. That means buying supplies, at present I'm looking at probably 25-30 insulation panels, about the same amount of drywall, maybe 30-40 rolls of insulation for the attic, probably enough wood flooring to cover some 1500 square feet, a bunch of timbers to restud a couple of walls, and that's not including the work I'm going to pay someone to do on my roof. I'm OK with ladders and heights, I'm OK with physical work, I'm not so happy with both at the same time so I'll let someone else have any accidents that are going to happen at height...

Been working on it on and off for a few months now, but took a break over the hotter months because it's not much fun working with fine plaster dust while pouring sweat. Lost a bit of time at other times too, as I ran out of space to store rubble and had to wait for people to do some parts I can't do myself.

It's also somewhat slowed by the fact I am trying to preserve woodwork, so it's not like I can just rip everything out and throw it in a heap - things like window frames need to be pried off more carefully and, since someone laid a floor around the baseboards, it's hugely fiddly trying to get those off.

Got another 70-odd gallons of cellulose insulation removed. It's slow work, it's sweaty work, and it's the kind of job that means I need a dust mask but after a while the dust mask stops me taking a deep breath. Usually I'll pull a couple of 35-gallon bags worth out and then take a break from it.
