I think that right there is the very reason why so many Christians experience pings
with their prayers, In other words: not only is their compliance with God's
commandments unsatisfactory, but they lack interest in doing the things that are
pleasing in His sight.

No. Of course it can be a reason God doesn't answer your prayer. He didn't answer me when I backslid and lived in sin. But people who live holy lives also don't always get what they ask for. Imagine someone in Africa who prays for food and gets nothing. Is that because the money grabbing Western preacher is more holy, that he gets money when he says money cometh or is he to blame that the other one has no food? Lazarus wanted some food and got nothing.

Christianity.

Ah, but here's there things... no one can perfectly keep God's commandment. No one except Jesus. In our baptisms, we are clothed in Jesus' righteousness so that when God looks at us, He sees His Son. That's for believers.

Now back to the topic of the Sinner's Prayer, non-believers don't have Jesus covering them, so they are stuck in their sin until GOD repents them.

After folks have prayed a sinner's prayer and become one of Jesus' believing
followers, what's to do next?

Well of course the next thing is to find out how to stay in Christ's good graces; and
we do that by researching his thoughts.

● Rom 12:2 . . Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and
approve what God's will is-- His good, pleasing and perfect will.

An excellent source of Christ's thoughts are the New Testament epistles.

● 1Thes 4:1-2 . .We beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that
as you have received of us how you ought to walk and to please God, so you would
abound more and more. For you know what commandments we gave you by the
Lord Jesus.
