In Genesis 3:16 God said, ""I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children;"

Some people in the 19th century believed that women should not have pain relief during childbirth because of the above verse!

Do you want to experience pain in child birth? No?

Neither do I.

Men have no dog in this race. If the bible is used to treat people badly then ignore the interpretations that favour bad treatment of people.

Hi Lam. Well, the verse in Genesis was pronounced as a curse, so was the desire for the husband. Lord Jesus has delivered us from the curse. I am a labor and delivery nurse and my answer is no. Women should not be forced to endure pain in childbirth.

No I read a book about it when I was pregnant. in Timothy it says she will be saved in child bearing. The Dutch text says she will be saved, bearing children. They said it meant she shall be saved from the pain and that Hebrew women had that too because they knew the covenant. Those women who said to Pharao they gave birth just like that and were much stronger than the Egyptians, that was true they said. And there were amazing testimonies of women who had no pain whatsoever because they believed that. My first came with a Cesarian I said to him: don't dare to move, keep sitting up lol and he was a very obedient kid so I felt nothing my but the second... I lived in a stupid village and that bunch of farmers were like: it has to be natural, no pain medication, which is how they always thought in Holland. Most still deliver at home. They refused to give me anything. Man how I hated them. So I thought: never again and before the third was even conceived I had found a good hospital in a big city where they did those spine things my how do you call all that stuff. Oh and the woman who wrote the book was smart. She said if you doubt even a little and don't have 100 percent faith for supernatural childbirth take medication. So I did. I had a spinal, felt absolutely nothing, I fell asleep during labor. They had to wake me up to say he wanted to get out now. Lovely.

Never giving birth but still it all depends on the pain and the size of the baby it is I take it!

I had a very old German doctor who delivered me and he didn't believe in giving epidurals so I had to suffer. He let the nurse give me a tiny bit of pain medicine (that did nothing for me) when I begged him for a c-section. LOL

I was young and didn't know which doctor to choose when I had my daughter but looking back I wish I would have gone elsewhere and received an epidural. I don't think God demands that we suffer in childbirth since he allowed medicines to be created!

Heah, God allowed medicine, so it is kind of silly for people not to use them.

If it's truly God's will for the pain of childbirth to be increased one has to wonder why maternity units aren't fitted with beds of nails, with people employed to periodically poke the mother-to-be with sharp sticks to remind her of the curse. I'm sure she would appreciate knowing it was entirely Biblical.

There is a hermeneutic that many people implicitly apply to bible reading and that all of us ought to keep in mind. It is this Never accept an interpretation that demands ill-treatment of people for the sake of religion.

Does scripture say whether or not Mary had pains while giving birth to Jesus?

Before she was in labor, she gave birth;
Before her pain came,
She delivered a male child.
8 Who has heard such a thing?
Who has seen such things?
Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day?
Or shall a nation be born at once?
For as soon as Zion was in labor,
She gave birth to her children.
9 Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery?” says the Lord.
“Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb?” says your God.

There is a lot about the power of the mind. When I was in labor, every contraction, I felt the Lord's hand on my tummy squeezing the child out, it was a not a painful thing in the same sense as would it have been if I didn't believe God's hand in this. If you are afraid of child birth, it will be extremely painful because your body is going to react not in a "working with it mode" but in "retreat, incoming pain waves" The difference will be reflected in the body's relax mode or flight and fright mode. Going with it as a God given event is going to be a lot easier, and more natural event. Which I can attest to.

I know that some women tolerate certain pains more than others.
