So, why not just make the transformation for everybody? Even the UK has its republicans, I understand. Is the monarchy really so outmoded?

As long as one restricts the head of state to garden parties and opening things and having no executive powers a king or queen is fine. Having an inherited (or appointed) monarchy saves one the expense of electing a president.

It's ENTIRELY up to Australia and the United Kingdom.

I'm a citizen of neither country. It's none of my business.

I'm not sure it is up to the UK. If Australia wants to break ties with the monarchy then I'm not sure what, if anything, the UK could do about it. I'm assuming that declaring war to keep the country on-side isn't a sensible option here.

No, that is Tony Abbot, he was Prime Minister until 2016 and then his party dumped him, now he is all bent out of shape by the experience and is causing them trouble.

I am glad they removed him, he was/is a little bit crazy.

Why does your Prime Minister get more airtime than your Governor- General? Isn't your GG actually the Head of State who answers directly to the Crown?

The GG has only ceremonial roles. No policy setting powers and no executive powers. So their role is fundamentally throwing garden parties and opening things.

Back then, the King of Great Britain wielded considerably more power than most heads of state do today, as you already know. The " being governed by common consent" idea is a rather new one in world politics. That idea is here to stay, though. I'd say good on you if Australia, Canada, Jamaica or any other Commonwealth country considering declaring themselves republics were to do so. Nowadays, that can happen without provoking a prolonged, bloody war.
