More details are coming out about this. The report states that the guy who got shot had been reaching down to the cigarette lighter to light a cigarette. Right after is when the policeman fired shots.

It's sad that the guy was shot in front of kids but even sadder that it's his fault he took them on a high speed chase with no headlights on.
I agree but it still is a cop reacting with excessive force

Unless it comes out that he was reaching for a gun to shoot the cop first?

Yeah a cigarette lighter really looks a lot like a gun

Don't blame the dead man and his kids and wife. They didn't shoot anybody. And speeding is not a capital crime.

I misread one article. I thought it said that the van driver rammed into the police officers. Trying to find that page again.

His gf was interviewed on the news: This is according to his gf who was sitting right next to him: Her bf had already lit his cigarette and was sitting there smoking and the police officer opened the door and shot him twice in the chest. Strangely it was not on the news the following day.

My opinion: If they thought he had a gun would they open the door and risk being shot point blank?

News reported: When I watched the news story the anchor person said that police were watching him and saw him light his cigarette.

Yes, he took them on a high speed run from the police but does that give them the right to kill him?
