It was an analogy, that's all. If you dont care for it, the fact remains that many words derive their meanings from older usages and it is silly to insist that, although we use them in a newer sense, we must instead use them only in the original sense.

Here is another one that IS church-related. A deacon is--in its original meaning--a servant. Is it wrong then that the church--as described in the New Testament--used the word to refer to a church officer (a clergyman, in most cases)?? Must all churches which have deacons start making them mop the floors instead of what they are currently doing? Its ridiculous.

Yes...deacons must mop the floors. This is especially important when the floors have carpeting.
