More train derailments?

Are there more train derailments than usual, or is it that the media is focusing on them and bringing them to our attention?

That's a good question, and I don't know the answer. I wondered about it, but I haven't noticed any news outlet giving the data to us.

Something related to the question is worth a moment's thought, however. When the man in the White House started his war against energy, pipelines in general, and the Keystone pipeline in particular, it meant that trains needed to carry more petroleum and petroleum products.

It was argued, you will recall, that pipelines might spring a leak and cause pollution, but no one in the administration said much about the alternative.
