"Be strong and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight. "(1 Sam. 4:9, KJV).

"Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong" (1 Cor. 16:13)

Men need to quit? ;)

Outline of Biblical Usage [?]
to make a man of or make brave
to show one's self a man, be brave

In other words, men, quit being weak and stand on your own two feet, should the responsibility be set before you, and be strong, brave, and show how you man up.

In historical context the philistines didn't fair well when they took the Ark of G-d.
1 Sam. 5.

The following sentence from Paul is "let all your things be done with charity".

By word of mouth. And grasping of hands.
Giving a portion to 7 and 8.

The comparison I see More Coffee is the idolization of men.
Where Paul was troubled to hear about what seems to be contention over who baptized who.

Something I found a bit auspicous.
When reading from the kjv of 1 Sam 4.
Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness.

9 Be strong and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.

Compare to a Hebrew edition.
"Woe is unto us! Who will save us from the hand of this mighty God? This is the God who smote the Egyptians with every sort of plague in the wilderness."
9"Strengthen yourselves and become men, you Philistines, lest you serve the Hebrews, as they served you, and you shall become men, and fight!"

I always thought that "quit you like men" was one of those KJV phrases that ranked up there with "gird up the loins of your mind". You just kind of go "huh...?"
Seriously, though, I got my great-grandmother's bible after she passed, and there were some hand-written notes referencing the verses in the OP. So it was like having one last bible study with her.

Yes I thought that too.
So I have to man up. Okay then.

Since Peter was cited.

Starting with Milk

Then on to 1 samuel

Then with 2 Samuel.

With winter approaching the philistines
And the 5 unwise will be confounded.

Sure.

1 peter 2.

Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

I'd be open to retiring but I don't think my mortgage company would approve.

Sorry, did I just circumsise some formal retort.

I gave fair warning.

Adonai is good.

No, it was just that your postings come off very vague since you don't realize that not too many people understand what your point is since you aren't clear in making it in the first place. That's all.

Yes, I am sorry for the postings having very little to be explained.

I have grown impatient with this forum in the area of technics. If I take time to type out all that i wish to say its usually lost. You see by time I have typed up a paragraph or essay the forum has logged me out and tossed everything i had previously spent an entire 15 or so minutes writing.

On the subject of men quit.
When has a man become so thirsty that he has forgotten of the well. What is man but a voice of many waters.
The soul is the water to reflect the Divine Light.
And being given the water of Life is a gift not to be withheld by any means of the evil inclination.

So if a congregation begins to be swayed and go to war against each other. This is not a good sign.
