Not grilling out, but seriously thinking about sourcing meat from a friend who farms cows. He lives barely a mile from me, and it seems like it would be good to stay local. My biggest concern is that he's not always very good at taking money and I don't want to be accepting a honking great pile of quality meat as a freebie.

I should have listened to my husband and gone to the Amish Farmers Market because they have a butcher's shop inside with really fresh meat! We bought some chuck for burgers and it was awesome.

Yes, there seems to be more and more trouble. I can't help thinking it's an endless desire to cut corners and squeeze more profit out of a process, that sometimes cuts the corner a little too hard and results in something dangerous getting out.

The older I get the more I want to find myself a patch of land with no neighbors anywhere nearby and live off the land.
