Years ago I went to a gym and walked on a treadmill a lot. I'd rather be walking in the woods but when everything is covered in snow it's not such a good idea and when the temperatures run north of 100 it's a struggle to physically carry enough water for a decent hike. The key thing is finding a way to keep cool in the summer - I have a stationary bicycle as well but haven't used it in ages because it's tucked out of the way, and being out of the way means there's not much air circulation. On a real bike the harder you push it the more wind resistance you face, which helps keep you cool. On a stationary bike the same power gets you a higher notional speed because the air resistance isn't there, but it also means you get very hot very fast, which isn't much fun.

Have you thought about putting a floor fan in front of you when you cycle? That's what I do when I use my bike that is hooked up to a trainer. It really helps.

I tried it, I need more air.

Of course another thing that doesn't help is that on the ground the harder I pedal the faster I go, which means the more air I get. The stationary bike turns the extra effort into the equivalent of a bigger hill rather than a higher gear - when I'm working hard to get up a hill I have trouble with overheating as well. It's just that I don't care if I'm pouring sweat if it drips on the ground; dripping onto my floor isn't as good.

I haven't cycled since my surgeries and now that I'm taking the thyroid hormone I might be able to sweat again. I didn't sweat for a few years while working out because of my broken thyroid! So it will be new to me.

We have an exercise equipment mat underneath my bike/trainer. If I do sweat it will catch it all.

Yesterday I shoveled our long driveway twice so there was no way I could do any workouts after that!

Today I started with this:

I've been struggling with energy and a sore throat the past couple of days. I think it's weather and season related. I could only do this so far today:

Isn't there a commandment against women wearing men's clothing ... I am sure somebody says that means trousers or pants.
