My daughter is coming over with her bulldog later and she wants to go to the park to hike on the trails. The bulldog is out of shape, so she might only do a mile.

Today's suggested workout was sprint repeats. I didn't fancy the thought of sprint repeats because it's very gusty, but decided to run a local 10k route to see what sort of time I could set. I think I can shave a nice slice off my personal best around that route but it wasn't going to happen today. Running up a long steady hill with 20mph winds gusting up to more like 35mph meant a personal best wasn't going to happen. That said even with a number of walk breaks because the winds were proving too much I came within about 30 seconds of my personal best for the distance, so when it's not so windy I should be able to shave a bit more off. Things weren't helped because I wore a top that proved to be too hot, because when the winds died down the sun was warmer than I expected.

My husband and I went hiking both days this weekend. It was chilly, but felt great.

I need to get back to the woods. I realised the other day that I haven't been hiking since I took my friend's son out a couple of months ago. Lots of walking and running since then but no hiking. Now it's cooler I won't come home bathed in sweat, which is always a plus.

Got into the mountains yesterday, 10 miles of hiking. Then a 10k run today. My legs might not like me in the morning.

My husband did about 3.5 miles yesterday on our hike at the park. Then we went out for lunch :D

After a few days away my tracker kept suggesting a threshold level workout. It's only been a few days without running but didn't fancy a hard run so did two days of base level runs. Then it suggested a base run but I wanted to go a bit harder, so yesterday's workout was faster. I'd expected to come in at a tempo pace but part way through I found my legs and ended up running at threshold pace for most of it. No personal bests but came within about 30 seconds of my PB for the route.

My tracker suggested a threshold level workout twice this week and both times I wasn't able to do it. Today it suggested a threshold level workout harder than I've seen it suggest before, so I figured I'd go for it before eating a heavy meal. And I actually managed to go somewhat harder than it suggested, even if it hurt on the hilly sections. I set a new personal best for distance in an hour but missed my 10k personal best, largely because the workout gave me a 5-minute recovery stage between two threshold-level stages. Had I gone faster during that recovery period I think I could easily have clawed back enough time to set a new PB.

There's a badge for running a 10k this weekend. I don't think I'll be doing it tomorrow though....

We only got out to walk a mile yesterday. There was way too much to do for the holiday.

I did a gentle run today and figured that since the forecast indicates it could be cold tomorrow and wet on Sunday I might as well just extend my run a bit and pick off the badge for doing a 10k. Nothing hard today, I kept my pulse down quite well and just focussed on covering the ground. Depending on what weather we actually get I may end up doing another 10k this weekend.

My watch suggested another threshold level workout, but this time the interval I was suggested to run at threshold pace was long enough to cover a little over 5k. I'd been thinking about making an attack on my 5k personal best for a while now, so thought I'd do that. I hadn't got very far into the warmup section when I decided the wind was cold so rerouted, but felt pretty strong and decided to go for it. Having rerouted meant I had more hills than in the route I'd originally planned but that was OK. The first ones were fine, I overegged it a little on a couple of them and had to walk for a bit, but still managed to take a nice chunk off my 5k personal best. Now I'm within less than 30 seconds of my all-time personal best, that I set on a treadmill 20 years ago. If I chose a different route I could probably shave off those 30 seconds and maybe more.

After working on the house my suggested workout was three threshold-level intervals. I managed to get them done but it felt harder than it should have, and the day was just a little bit chilly for the run. I should have worn a warmer top, but didn't realise that until I was far enough in that I didn't want to go back home.

It's encouraging to see that, when it's not too hot, I can sustain a pace that I could only dream of a couple of years ago. Maybe I'll take a shot at my best time for a half marathon before it gets properly cold.

I have to confess that I haven't been getting my daily 10,000 steps! I've been so busy doing things and my FitBit isn't tracking the steps accurately, but I still know it's under 10,000. I'm so tired in the evening that I don't even feel like catching up. Maybe once the holidays are over I'll get back into the swing of things again.

Epic workout today. I planned to run my 5-mile route but clocked the first mile much faster than expected, and at the 2-mile mark I was holding an average speed fast enough to beat my 10k personal best. So I kept pushing on the speed, and at 5 miles I was still fast enough to set a new PB. Seeing that I added the extra loop to the route to make it a 10k, and ended taking just over a minute off my personal best. When I saw my average speed was high enough for a new record after climbing all the remaining hills it felt good - from there it was about half a mile of steady downhill so even though my pulse was high I was able to ramp the speed a bit to gain a few extra seconds.

A few days replacing running with walking, largely due to a stomach bug that's been doing the rounds. My watch has been suggesting a tempo workout for a while now and yesterday was the first day I felt that running was a good idea, let alone running at a somewhat faster pace than a baseline run. So I did the suggested workout, which was harder than it should have been but I got through it. Then last night's sleep feedback said I'd got a lot of intense exercise and I should do that sparingly. Left hand, meet right hand.

Today's workout was a base run. I went slightly harder for the last half or so because the weather for the next couple of days is supposed to be nasty so I won't get to do a harder workout until at least Tuesday. And it registered a little harder than the suggestion, although not massively so.

Assuming I don't slip any days I'm optimistic I can get to the end of the year and have an entire 365 days of getting 10,000 steps per day. That would be nice.

I got another walk in today!! I'm hoping to get out there tomorrow, but it's supposed to rain after church and through Monday as well before temps drop drastically. My hopes are not high that I'll walk again outside for a while.

Cold isn't a problem because you can always add layers. Cold and wet isn't much fun.

For people who have Raynaud's, it's a struggle in the cold weather.

Does adding extra layers not work? Serious question, I'm wondering if that's something that makes things difficult or totally unmanageable.

I'm not one to run in the cold but several people I know have specific winter running outfits. I tend to either run indoors or wear enough layers to keep the cold at bay and walk.

It's hard to manage sometimes, so layers don't always work. If my fingers or feet even start to feel cold, it's hard to stop it. There are times when I've gone to bed and worn heavy slipper socks on my feet and 3 hours later under heavy blankets my feet are still ice cold. It's awful.
