Is this behavior OK?

A guy I know ordered an appetizer for himself only when we went out to dinner. His appetizer arrived before anyone else's food did, and he ate the whole thing right away without sharing any.

Is this behavior OK? (Why/Why Not)

Oh wait. Everyone could order a soup or something, but only he did? Then he shouldn't have to share. I thought he just ordered only for himself and started to eat.

Did he have that as his dinner? How famished was he?

Usually when I'm out to eat with a group, if they order the appetizer for their dinner instead of an entree, we don't expect it to be shared.

I can't see any logic in expecting anybody in a dinner party to share his food, period.

And ordering an appetizer is nothing special. Besides, it's an appetizer! Sharing an appetizer would mean that the guy ordering it wouldn't get to have much of it himself.

Back in the day when I went to dinner gatherings at restaurants I normally waited to eat a main meal if mine had arrived before the others, just so someone who might have come hungry wouldn't have to watch another person eat while they waited. I wouldn't expect to share my main meal. Appetizers, meh...it's supposed to come before mains and it's not usually satiating, maybe not everyone one ordered one and I wouldn't see the point in sharing or waiting.

Give everyone a spoon full of soup or let it get cold? I don't think I ever had another appetizer than soup once in a blue moon, because appetizers are a pity of your money and even if the boss pays, I don't order it.
