I think christians know it, but other people? Really old ones a lot I think, but young ones here don't even know the basics or what happened with Easter.

I don't think that all denominations recite the Lord's Prayer in their service? Can anyone verify?

No evangelicals and pentecostals don't do that, but it's in the Bible and can be used as a guide to pray. Baptists also didn't do that the one time I went to a baptist church.

So it's possible that members of those congregations might not know it by heart?

I think so yes. I got it in school, but if they don't go to a christian school and haven't read it in the Bible yet and have no reformed parent, that may very well be possible.

Probably as much as they recite it. I know it by heart and I don't even go to church.

Well... in the USA, 33% of adults NEVER attend worship services. 66% do at least once per year. That includes Jews and Muslims who don't embrace the Lord's Prayer. And in many "Evangelical" and non-liturgical churches, the Lord's Prayer is not a usual part of the worship service. So, I find it very possible that many Americans do not know the Lord's Prayer, at least "by heart." Sad... but not unlikely.

Did they really not know it or did they get caught off guard because they were put on the spot?
They appeared clueless, and there was time for each of the three to give it some thought, since none of them was ringing in.

This was only one instance of this sort of thing happening on the show, though. I have often remarked that the program features three smart and well-rounded people who can come up with the answer to some really tough questions, BUT the one category that is most likely to stump all three of them (and by "stump" I mean dead silence, not even an incorrect guess), is one that asks a fairly basic question about Christian practice or terminology.
