A cookie walk is where a group holds the event (like at a church as a fund raiser) and they have stations of different types of cookies and you go around choosing which ones you would like and put it in your container. Usually you pay by the pound when you're done. Some cookie walks are for fun and you bring 2 dozen or more and so does everyone else and then you exchange with those people.

I've always wanted to do one of these but never had the time and with paying for it I'm kind of afraid of paying $30 for cookies!

I like the idea of taking a pile of cookies and swapping with people. That sounds fun.

I really don't like the idea of taking a load of cookies and then buying them by the pound. Not only does it potentially lead to nasty surprises (particularly nasty for those of more limited means) but it often seems to me that if the idea is to take something to donate and then buy the stuff other people have donated you might as well just donate some money and be done with it. Then you can freely trade cookies without people having to worry whether they'll be able to afford the total when they've gathered up their cookies.

"Three of my cookies for three of your cookies" sounds so much more inclusive than "Three of my cookies? That'll be $6 please".

The ones I've seen that charge do not require that you bring in cookies to exchange...it's purchase only and usually it's paying per pound. I just have no clue how much that would come to if I wanted to buy 2 dozen cookies since some with nuts and chocolate or frosted would weigh more than a simple sugar cookie unfrosted. I'd love to get an idea though because if it's the same cost as getting from a bakery I might as well just go to a bakery where I know they'll taste yummy because that's their business.

Just aim for the sugar free cookies. My late father-in-law was diabetic and I was surprised at just how many sugar-free options exist.

The problem with that is they aren't really sugar free. If you read the label they still have carbs in them

Maybe he could eat carbs but not sugar. Or maybe he just figured he'd enjoy life while he still had it. Does it make a difference if you're type 1 or type 2 diabetic?

I went to a Cookie Walk today at a church and loved it!! I had such a great time selecting my own cookies for my containers. I actually bought 2 containers and because my husband was shy about going with me I had to have them hold one container at the table and then go around again with another one a second time so I wouldn't drop my containers while putting in my selections.

The way this place did it was you go in and tell them which size container you want (I chose the largest and I think I got around 4 dozen cookies in each one) and they banquet tables set up in a U shape with plates all around. You are also given a vinyl disposable glove to pick up the cookies with. Each plate has a variety of cookies on it and there are ladies replacing cookies on those plates every few minutes. The cookies were so well done and a some even professionally decorated!! I didn't want to choose too many of them even though they were beautiful because I wanted others to enjoy them too. But I did place my cookies in my container in a very organized manner so I could utilize the space well and I got my money's worth of $12 a container. Now I don't have to bake and we have one container in the freezer for Christmas Eve.

I'm really happy I went there and although I love to bake this alleviates the stress of taking the time to get it all done...and I have such a wide assortment of different cookies now too!

Sounds like fun. My wife likes to get together with her aunt, a friend, and the friend's two daughters (in their late teens) one day near Christmas to bake cookies and chatter. She always comes back with bags and bags and bags of them, and usually quite a good assortment. There's a particular one her aunt makes that I absolutely love, so her aunt makes an extra large batch for me :)

That sounds like a great tradition!! My daughter and I usually bake cookies but after the first batch in the oven she gets bored and goes to do other things and I'm left to finish up. She'll help clean up which is nice though :)
