In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And he came to her and said, "Hail full of Grace, the Lord is with you!" (Luke 1:26-28)

The underlined words are used as the start of the Ave Maria with one addition - that being the name of the virgin which is Mary. Some object to the Ave Maria for various reasons but the words for it are taken from holy scripture except for the last part which is a petition for prayer to be said to the Lord our God. The rest of the Ave Maria is found in these verses

In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leapt in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, 'Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. (Luke 1:39-42)

Blessed Mary is but a woman redeemed by the Lord Jesus Christ and seated in heaven as his beloved mother. No creature, and Blessed Mary is truly a creature made in God's image and blessed greatly by him can be a goddess as the pagans accounted a goddess yet holy scripture refers to the rulers of ancient Israel as gods (Psalm 82:6; Exodus 4:16; Exodus 7:1; John 10:34) so be careful with your words and explain your intended meaning clearly without relying on innuendo and other forms of accusation without courage.

While I will not attribute it to you as I dont know I will say that some within your faith do raise her to a level that is above a mere woman blessed or not and turn her into a replacement for Jesus by praying to her and elevating her more than she should be. That is why so much push back on this topic

I am saying stop with the Mary promotion. You promote Mary more than you do Lord Jesus. We did not need another Mary thread. That is what I am saying. Promote and lift up the name of Jesus.

Why? The holy scriptures say that all generations shall call Blessed Mary blessed so I call her so. Why complain when she is honoured as God said she would be?

To me the difference is abundantly clear. Blessed Mary is the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Folks, enough of the back and forth in here. You're welcome to disagree with a thread, but that doesn't mean you are welcome to come in and disrupt the flow of the thread. If you prefer to not see this thread, you are able to place it on ignore and it will no longer show up for you.

"Hail, Mary, full of grace" simply means:

"Greetings, Mary, blessed by God."

"Hail, Mary, full of grace" simply means:

"Greetings, Mary, blessed by God."

If that were what it meant then that would be what it said but it does not say that. It says "Hail, full of grace"

No, it means Hail, full of grace.

Or, "Hello, Mary, full of God's favour." You don't have to adhere to your addiction of Old English.

"full of grace" is modern English.

Yes, but it is good to recognize what grace means and also what "Hail" means! It simply means, "Hello!"
