Replacing Graphics card fan. I have a 2011 graphics card, so it will be kind of underpowered in comparison to new cards in a similar price range. Mine is a XFX HD5770 850M PCIe/1GB/DVI/HDMI . It's little fast spinning red fan needed lubrication but about a year ago I bought a fan for it and decided to install it today. It was easy to do. I also took the time to dust the innards of my PC - I had neglected dusting the innards for about 10 months so it needed some dusting work but not too much. The new fan is functioning nicely. Card stays around 35c.

Lately my computer didn't function anymore. Gave it to my dad to fix it. He took a vacuum cleaner and it worked again.

It's remarkable how many times a computer not working is because the innards are fouled with dust.

A friend of mine had two identical (his-n-hers) laptops and neither worked. I took them home on the basis they were headed to landfill if I couldn't fix them. One of them just needed a good clean out inside, the other needed a new screen. He was expecting to have to pay several hundred to replace them both (money he didn't have), but in the end it cost him about $50 for a new screen and some beers for me as a thankyou for getting everything working again.

Stripping a laptop to the extent required to replace the screen was an experience...

There are some lovely YouTube videos about fixing all sorts of laptop models. I watch what is relevant before I delve into the innards of tablets and some PC components. It's helpful to watch where things are and what screws need to be undone. And it is free which is a lovely service provided by the video makers.
