What about "I am the Truth"?

What about "I am the Life"?

How about "this is my body"? and how about "this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins"?

How many sayings of Jesus are you willing to treat as metaphors?

In the Apocalypse Jesus is seen as a lion. Is that a metaphor? Or is it a vision or something equally symbolic and unreal. How far are you willing to go down the unreality road. You appear to think that "I am the way" is metaphor, is "I am the Truth" also a metaphor? And why is "this is my body" a metaphor it doesn't have any of the cues that point to metaphor. It's a bald statement like "This is my house" and "this is my wife".

BY the way, I am inclined to think that Jesus is the door, and the vine, and the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world and the Lion of Judah too. I guess I just like to believe Jesus' words rather than make things up about them being metaphorical.

Doesn't one understand these sayings through way of context and the ones Jesus was speaking to? Regardless of that are they also not all about our Messiah and his usage of metaphors helped explain to those listening and wasn't also it the case that whenever Jesus used a metaphor he explained the meaning behind it to the disciples but when he wasn't using a metaphor that no explanation was necessary? It could also be that my mind is feeble and I have forgotten what I have been taught.

It's His Character or role, He doesn't look like a natural door and He isn't lifeless.
I am not a literal sheep I hope, but it describes my character. And all the sheep say Ame e e e en.

The problem is that you're reading this the wrong way around. It isn't Jesus that is like an earthly door it is the earthly door that is like Jesus. The earthly door is the metaphor. The reality is Jesus. Jesus is the door. Earthly doors are like him insofar as they open and shut and govern access. They are like him he is not like them as if they were the original and he the metaphorical copy.

Today in church we celebrated the Transfiguration. My pastor pointed out how Moses had borrowed light but Jesus had unborrowed light. He truly is the light.

The Orthodox have a fairly developed theology around created and uncreated energies that have helped me wrap my mind around concepts like that.
