Should the election day be made a national holiday?

It would get more people the time off to vote!! My husband struggles to get there on time.

Yes, it boggles the mind that it is not.

There's not much need anymore for such a change since most states have made voting possible for days or weeks prior to election day (and sometimes after election day, too).

That's without having to make any claim of needing an absentee ballot because of health issues or the like.

What's more, some states have made it possible for people from the Democratic Party to go around and collect (called "harvesting") absentee ballots from people who can't be bothered to mail them back to the election boards themselves.

If all those gimmicks were abandoned as a part of a changeover to having election day be a national holiday so that people wouldn't have their jobs keeping them from getting to the polls, I'd favor it. However, that won't happen for obvious political reasons and, also, because there are other reasons why people don't make it to the polls on election day. Those reasons would be cited as arguments against making the change.

It seems to me that the powers that be need to decide one way or the other what the deal is going to be regarding voting.

Voting should be easy for people who are entitled to vote and very difficult for people who are not entitled to vote. The trouble is when it's allegedly racist to require photo ID (apparently it's difficult for people with brown skin to get ID however much notice they are given) it's impossible to simultaneously secure voting while Not Being Racist. So we have voting booths that suffer from endless allegations of understaffing so black people can't get to the polls on time, while also making it ever-easier to send in an absentee ballot that may or may not be validated to ensure the person casting it is even allowed to vote.

People in the country illegally have little to lose by trying to vote, while lawful immigrants risk deportation for fraudulent voting.

Stop all mail in voting except for health, travel, and military service and have those ballets notarized so it can be confirmed that the person who filled out the ballot is the person who signed the ballot.

Have polls open for 72 hours straight to make it easier for everyone to vote in person, regardless of what shift they work or what schedule they have.

Let each precinct have vehicles to transport those who need a ride to the polls and home.

If we did that, it would stop vote harvesting and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to vote.
