Does your family only go to church Christmas and Easter?

Does your family (or close friends) only go to church on Christmas and Easter? I don't mean necessarily you and your spouse and kids, but other family members?

My hubby only goes with me for Christmas, Easter and the occasional Sunday if I nag him into it. As for the rest of my family, most do.

I really struggle with the mentality of going to church at Christmas and Easter if you don't go at other times.

If you enjoy singing Christmas carols then going to church at Christmas makes some sense, even if only for a good singalong. It's not entirely unlike a small church near where I once worked that had an organ recital once a week - no church service or anything even remotely religious, anyone could go along and listen to some impressive music played on a traditional pipe organ and donations were entirely voluntary. It was a good place to go to get away from the office at lunchtime.

If you have enough sense of belief to attend church at Easter I'd have thought you'd want to attend at other times, and if you don't believe there doesn't seem a lot of point going to church at Easter.

We participate in public worship in church every Sunday (at least).

So do both of our parents and all of our siblings and their families.

I think some families enjoy being together at worship during the holidays because it makes them feel good. What happens in today's society is we make worship not a priority so they don't see any harm in missing church services. Of course it's Satan luring them away. How do we get them to see the value of going to worship services?

I guess if they want to worship they will. If the only times they attend church is at Christmas and Easter the safest assumption is probably that they don't want to attend on any of the other 50 weeks of the year.

If it makes people feel good to attend twice a year I guess they can do what works for them. I just don't understand the idea that it feels good - if you want to attend church then attend church and if you don't then don't.

Sometimes that is all the energy they have to make it to those services. I remember my mom not being able to walk much due to her arthritis and she struggled to get out of certain types of seats.
