Do you wear a cross or a crucifix?

It isn't ridiculous when it's a well-known fact that people who are not Christian are wearing the bare cross as a fashion statement and not a profession of faith.

It's ridiculous to keep trying to argue that that's the most common reason, however.

When I see someone wearing a bare cross, depending on the person, I make assumptions. If its a nice man or woman I’ll assume s/he’s a Christian of some denomination. Maybe Catholic maybe something else. When I used to see a Crucifix I’d assume the person is Catholic, even though I wear one and I’m Lutheran. Now that I know some Lutherans wear Crucifixes I wonder if they’re Catholic or Lutheran. If I see a rough looking “thug” (for a lack of a better word) wearing either I don’t know if they’re Christian or wearing it as a fashion statement.

You'd love one of the guys around here.

He has a shaven head and full sleeve tattoos on both arms (it's been a while since I saw him, I think he also has tats on his neck). I think some of the tats are prison tats, he's certainly done at least one spell in jail. Except now he's a church minister and does a lot of outreach work to the bottom end of the socioeconomic spectrum, specifically people struggling with drug issues.

I have tattoos, but never been in prison.

To some people you would be the "rough looking thug" you described....

Well, I doubt it. Tattoos are pretty mainstream now and even many conservative looking people have them, though I will agree that there is a mindset among some people that only thugs have tattoos. All mine are Christian based and I’m a 61 year old grandmother, so I guess if they’d think that of me, they’d have to think of me as a religious thug Grandma. Ha!
p.s. are there women “thugs?”

They certainly are mainstream although there are still those who think a tattoo marks someone as a thug. I'm sure there's a comic sketch in here somewhere.... a tattood grandmother tearing down the street, hitting young kids with her cane or something....
