Do you believe that hating some person, or especially some group damages your soul.

As an example, I will mention that many people who have YouTube channels devoted to debunking Jehovah's witnesses, most of these channels present facts and are run by individuals who seek to help former JWs or JWs who are open to hearing the facts, I am not thinking of them, but some YouTube channels are run by people who delight in every scandal and every fault that they can find spreading gossip and false stories along with facts. These are the ones I think are driven by anger and hate. Do you agree that hate is damaging to one's soul?

I guess it depends on what you hate. If you hate sin then that is okay. Matthew 5:44 tells us we are suppose to love our enemies. When I looked this word up "hate" it said that the word is used 42 times in the New Testament and means to detest, to hate, to pursue with hatred.

It depends on what you mean by "hate."

Such can mean to disapprove - perhaps passionately, "with anger." An example of such might be Jesus casting out the money changers from the Temple or the Father destroying Sodom and Gomorrah. I think we'd all agree that neither Jesus or the Father sinned there.

On the other hand, we are called to love - even as God loves us - and to love even our enemies. Christ died for us while we were His enemies.... God loved those who hated Him. We are called to "turn the other cheek" and not take vengeance.

I'm not sure these are mutually exclusive. "Hate" = to strongly disapprove. "Love" (well, a meaning of agape) is unconditional love - love marked by mercy and grace. There is a sense in which God both hates us (Psalm 5:5, etc) AND loves us (John 3:16 etc). Parents have a sense in which these two live side-by-side.... sometimes I strongly disapprove and am angry with something my children do... but I love them with all my heart; I would literally die for them. There are times I punish them - but because I love them.

I do not believe the Bible teaches us to hate. I do not believe in hating someone because they do not believe in the same thing I believe in or they do not believe in "my religion" or anything like that. It's one thing to hate the sin but I don't believe in hating the person that commits the sin.

I not only hate Lucifer, but I hate what he did in the old world when he tried to set himself up in place of GOD, which is what he also is coming to try and do again at the end of this world.

No, I don't agree that hate is damaging to one's soul. Hate is just one of the many attributes that humans have because God has. We can hate because God can hate. We can love because God can love. And we are created in His image.

That doesn't mean our love or hate is always directed in the right direction, because we are fallen in Adam. Did Adam and Eve love Cain? Of course they did. Did God? Of course not. (1 John 3:12)

Did Isaac love Esau? Of course he did. Did God? Of course not. (Rom. 9:10-13)

If Adam and Eve hated Cain from the beginning, would that have been right? Because God hated him.

If Isaac hated Esau from the beginning, would he have been right? Because God hated him.

Hating someone requires forgiveness. If you cannot forgive the bible teaches us that he will also not forgive us....that's the real issue here

It's okay to believe in your faith or your religion. But I don't believe in hating someone who isn't apart of your religion or who doesn't believe the same things you do.

For example, the terrorists believe that anyone who does not believe in their religion is an infidel and deserves to be killed. I think that if your religion is teaching you it's okay to hate someone that isn't apart of your religion (or who doesn't believe the same things you do) then I think you're doing it wrong. I haven't found anywhere in the Bible where it says it's okay to hate.

Now, I can see love the sinner but hate the sin. You can disagree with someone but still be nice to that person despite the fact that you guys disagree.

Hate is damaging to the soul, but the example that was given is based upon a personal judgment. Other readers of the same material may well say that what a person sincerely thinks is wrong and, therefore, is deserving of some discussion on an appropriate forum...doesn't necessarily make that be an act of hate. We would have to know a lot more about any such event in order to decide.

Yes, hate damages us; it is an infection that can result in death of our souls if it isn't rescued by Jesus. It seems to me that people who spread negative gossip about others have an insecurity that has to try to make them feel better about themselves. They need Jesus' rescue to realize that they can be God's adopted children secure in him.
