It's similar to what happened in the Bible in Numbers 13 and 14.
Moses, in the wilderness of Paran, sent 12 scouts to secretly search the land. Ten of them came back with a negative report, only Caleb made a positive report and later Caleb and Joshua (Oshea) told the company to trust in the Lord.
The article talked about two mentalities: soldier and scout.
What happened to the 10 scouts that made the negative report? They died (Num. 14:36-37) and Caleb and Joshua lived.(Num. 14:38)
What is our attitude: soldier or scout?

That analogy is all well and good but trusting in the Lord only works if the Lord was actually calling someone to do that seemingly improbable thing. If we just take some huge leap of blind faith and assume God will back us because we "stepped out in faith" we might not have quite such a happy ending.

To take a silly example it's no good me going and putting down a deposit on a shiny new Lamborghini, confident that "stepping out in faith" will please God and he'll come up with the $400k (give or take a bit) or so needed to complete the purchase. Chances are if I try and force God's hand like that I'm going to lose my deposit as well as my reputation.

And I'm just gonna have to say this, but why is everyone up in arms over a word that's been used before Christianity, the word cross was used before Christianity.

im not up in arms over it .. i accept the word ecclessia isn't the word church .they have differing meanings , doesn't rock my world at all . but then my faith isn't in a "church " .

I don't know anyone who has faith in "church" but I do know plenty who have faith in God our Savior and the forgiveness of sins won so that we may have eternal life. People can learn about Him in church.

I don't have faith in a church, other than in the generic sense that I believe it exists. To be fair that doesn't take much faith given how often I drive past it. But anyway...

Maybe we have finally agreed that this English word "church" can, depending on context, refer to a gathering of people or the building in which such a gathering of people actually gathers. And maybe we can agree that the original Greek word referred to the gathering of people, and that since the gathering of people need a venue in order to actually gather, the fact that the same word for the gathering is used for the venue where the gathering happens isn't really a problem?

Jesus said: "...I will spue (vomit) thee out of my mouth."

Because though sayest,
I'm rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knows not that though art:
wretched, and
miserable, and
poor, and
blind, and
naked:

Then Jesus told John what to buy on verse 18.

Then on verse 21 tells us to "overcome". To overcome what?

Do we know what we should overcome?

Then He said to have an ear to hear (means understanding different from just listening) the message of the Spirit to the 7 churches.

So, are we hearing or listening?

nice TWIST .. the article is about the "word" church its origin and meaning .. and about the word ecclesia and its meaning . and how ecclesia does not have the same meaning as the word 'church'. it is interesting and thought provoking . and seems to shake those who idolize the man made system they have their confidence in. if their confidence was not in that system , they would be completely Unphased by the topic

how do we know what a person idolizes / shake the shelf they keep it on and watch of the run to defend it .

If some goon shakes the shelf where my expensive ornaments are you'd better believe I'm going to run to protect them. I'll throw the goon out of my house while I'm up. That doesn't mean I wouldn't get rid of them if God calls me to, I just don't want some idiot breaking them to prove a point to someone who ultimately doesn't matter.

Using this kind of reasoning we can conclude that everybody regards their car as an idol because if someone drives at them they take evasive action. Hey, maybe you idolise the things in your house if you take steps like locking your doors before going out to make sure nobody steals them.

its an analogy of a person reaction to what they value the most ..
and a very accurate one . what hold much worth to you you rush to defend .. like rcc folk when you mention images of Mary being bowed down to (and yes i have personally observed it many many many many times ) they RUSH to defend it ..proving its worth to them and thus the idolatry of it .

i brought up the idolatry od spots a few times ...wow did so called Christians rush to defend their beloved idols lol ..vehemently- but you knew what i meant

Jesus said the cares for the THINGS of this world and the deceitfulness of riches will cause us to become unfruitful
and he warns and unfruitful branch will be cut off and cast in the fire

yes, altho it held little of interest to me. I'm more interested in what the bible says than in what people say about it.
