Christians spend too much time thinking about the deficiencies of other Christians.

True or False? And why?

Hard to say. No doubt, there are some Christians who do that. At the same time, many others are concerned about the false teachings and practices of some other Christian preachers and Christian churches but do not spend a lot of time or effort on the individual followers.

I'd say true. We're all human. Only Jesus had the patience to say: "forgive them, for they know not what they do."

Why would we spend time concentrating on the deficiencies of others, I'm not talking about false teachings, when we could be learning something from them instead?

I've met many people I absolutely did not like in my life, but never someone I couldn't learn something from.

We each touch a different part of the elephant, and we will never know about the whole elephant unless we learn about it from those touching other parts of it.

If it's true, I would say that it exposes our insecurities and pride. We need to repent of all our sins instead of looking at others' sins. When I see someone exposing their sins, I say, "Hey, we're all weak."

Pointing fingers at someone else and highlighting their sins, particularly if they are sins I'm unlikely to ever commit, is safe. It's a bit less comfortable to look in the mirror and see the ways I'm falling short, and it takes work to fix that.

It's the whole thing about "let him without sin cast the first stone". Sometimes we so badly want to throw our stone that we lose sight of the fact we're just as bad as the person in front of us.

Yeah, we more than likely have different sins from the one we are talking about, but we might hide ours better than they do. I heard someone say that we need to always realize that when we point one finger at someone else, we have three others pointing back at us.

Very true. As Metallica wrote in their song "Holier than thou":

Before you judge me take a look at you
Can't you find something better to do?
Point the finger, slow to understand
Arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand
