Here are some I've read recently that I especially liked....
Highly recommended:
All the Light We Cannot See - Anthony Doerr. Solid grade of A (maybe A+). Two intertwined stories of a guy and girl during the 30's and 40's - a blind French girl and an orphaned German boy. I read this 3 times.
Unbroken - Laura Hillenbrand. Solid A. A story of a guy from California who participated in the 36 Olympics and then in WW 2 - where he became a Japanese prisoner of war. Cannot put this one down..... extremely inspirational... has a Christian thing toward the end. Powerful stuff.
The Boys in the Boat - Daniel James Brown. A + Definitely on my short list of my fave books ever. The story of 9 guys (especially one) who made up the crew that rowed a boat that participated in the 36 Olympics. LOVED this book.
A notch below .... not great but recent books I've read and enjoyed....
Orphan Train Christina Baker Kline. Solid B. Maybe B+. WELL worth the read but not among my "keepers." Story of two women (I can't get too into the plot), their stories intertwining.
The Girl on the Train Paula Hawkins. B. A "who done it" but exceptionally well done. A quick read, hard to put down.
Wild Cheryl Strayed. B - This was made into a movie (which I've not seen) and is a very popular book. I liked the hiking part of the book, and there's much of that so I liked the book. I actually found Cheryl a bit annoying ("GROW UP!!!!") .... I covet her physical journey, not her emotional one.
