What's a Christian song you don't like, and why?

When I was a little girl, my mom had a 78 record of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen that was SLOW and it scared me so much!! I'd run to my bed and hide whenever she would put it on the record player.

You'd need to define what counts as a "Christian song".

Deep loud manly voices singing random words of praise about a God I'm terrified of... I wonder why? 🤔
Hi Lucian, have you tried maybe listening to those that may have softer voices if that helps?

Amazing Grace. I don’t know why I don’t like it but I never have.

I don’t like the lyrics and I don’t like the melody, either.

I actually sang that one during Communion yesterday at church because most of the people knew it and would sing with me. Our organist was out, so we just sang a capella. I thought of you while singing it and tried to make it sound as pleasant as possible in case someone else didn't like it either.

Thanks. You must be a really good singer.

I'm okay, nothing really remarkable about my sound, but I can make it pretty and I have good range and can be loud.

There's a depressing amount of so-called "worship" music around these days that's either theologically thin to useless, or places most if not all of the focus on man. But then people start to protest because, you know, they love that song, so whether it's pleasing to God gets lost in the mix somewhere.

Sometimes it seems like a comparison would be to look at the laws for a sacrifice. God says he wants a bull, one year old, without blemish. We find something kinda-sorta cow shaped, it makes a noise a bit like a moo, so that's close enough. Is it a male? Is it a year old? Is it without blemish? Who knows, who cares, it moos so isn't that enough? We're giving something after all.

Any chance you'd try a couple different renditions:

This group I never heard of; but they're awesome!

Dianna Ross in person in Vienna with a full orchestra!

Pentatronix; They don't do anything bad! Too short though

Love it when she says: Come on!... It's Amazing Grace!

"Amazing Grace" is a Christian hymn written in 1772 and published in 1779 by English Anglican clergyman and poet John Newton (1725–1807). It is possibly the most sung and most recorded hymn in the world, and especially popular in the United States, where it is used for both religious and secular purposes.[1][2][3]

Newton wrote the words from personal experience; he grew up without any particular religious conviction, but his life's path was formed by a variety of twists and coincidences that were often put into motion by others' reactions to what they took as his recalcitrant insubordination. He was pressed into service with the Royal Navy, and after leaving the service, he became involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In 1748, a violent storm battered his vessel off the coast of County Donegal, Ireland, so severely that he called out to God for mercy. While this moment marked his spiritual conversion, he continued slave trading until 1754 or 1755, when he ended his seafaring altogether. Newton began studying Christian theology and later became an abolitionist.

Ordained in the Church of England in 1764, Newton became the curate of Olney, Buckinghamshire, where he began to write hymns with poet William Cowper. "Amazing Grace" was written to illustrate a sermon on New Year's Day of 1773. It is unknown if there was any music accompanying the verses; it may have been chanted by the congregation. It debuted in print in 1779 in Newton's and Cowper's Olney Hymns, but settled into relative obscurity in England. In the United States, "Amazing Grace" became a popular song used by Baptist and Methodist preachers as part of their evangelizing, especially in the American South, during the Second Great Awakening of the early 19th century. It has been associated with more than 20 melodies. In 1835, American composer William Walker set it to the tune known as "New Britain" in a shape note format; this is the version most frequently sung today.

With the message that forgiveness and redemption are possible regardless of sins committed and that the soul can be delivered from despair through the mercy of God, "Amazing Grace" is one of the most recognisable songs in the English-speaking world. American historian Gilbert Chase writes that it is "without a doubt the most famous of all the folk hymns"[4] and Jonathan Aitken, a Newton biographer, estimates that the song is performed about 10 million times annually.[5]

It has had particular influence in folk music, and has become an emblematic black spiritual. Its universal message has been a significant factor in its crossover into secular music. "Amazing Grace" became newly popular during the 1960s revival of American folk music, and it has been recorded thousands of times during and since the 20th century.

I suspect that it's because Music is powerful and can move one inside! That prolly scares him!

Tp answer the thread question, There are a few that I will say that, it's not that I dislike them, but I am not fond of a few. Just not in my taste or genre that I am used to.

I forget exactly what one or few that might be, but I know it when I hear it. Lol.

I do listen to some traditional hymns, but I also listen to quite a bit of rock. For example, Norman Greenbaum-Spirit in the Sky, Skillet-Awake and Alive, Monster, Hero. I also listen to a limited amount of secular music and sometimes I hear a song with some lyrics in it that suggests, he who wrote that is a Christian disguised with rock n roll! Like Ted Nugent has a strong Christian sounding lyric in one of his songs.

Air 1 radio always played harder rock Christian music but they steadily kept moving to more and more hip hop style. They've since switched to contemporary Christian music with an emphasis on praise and worship.

I've seen a lot of testimonials on artists in fringe genres like death metal, grunge, hip hop rap. The testimony is this: The people that listen to that music need the Lord also. I will declare the dividing line is the lyrics. Christian music lyrics lift the Lord up. So no matter how much you may dislike the musical composition, the lyrics are a blessing.
