Did you expect tech to be better by now?

It would be nice if more stuff actually worked. Instead we just get the trite "Something went wrong" kind of error message, that tells us nothing about whether the issue is something we did, something with an internet connection, the remote server, or what. Still, VOIP technology means we get...

How many forums have you been banned from?

I'm not sure if I've been banned from any. I think I was temporarily banned from a now defunct Christian forum I once helped admin but was removed for political reasons. After I left the forum voluntarily I believe I was banned but can't be sure.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Epic workout today. I planned to run my 5-mile route but clocked the first mile much faster than expected, and at the 2-mile mark I was holding an average speed fast enough to beat my 10k personal best. So I kept pushing on the speed, and at 5 miles I was still fast enough to set a new PB...

    Error in the Bible

There are a few interesting things in there that may be errors in recording or translation. I forget the chapter and verse but recall something about Ishmael lifting his mother at a time when if you back out all the ages he'd have been five years old. The beginning of John's gospel comments...

    Eggnog

Never really cared for it myself. Although I hear it can be useful for cleaning the toilet bowl.

    Fruitcake

Once slice of the fruitcake my mother used to make and I bet you'd change your mind.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

It felt chilly today but I decided to deal with it and go for a proper run rather than doing seemingly endless laps of the church hall. My suggested workout today was a base level run, which was strange since the last couple of days the suggestions have been for harder workouts than I could...

    What would you vote for?

I'd fall into economically conservative and socially liberal, so none of the options really match what I'd be looking for. From the options listed I'd probably choose conservative but would like to see a more libertarian option available.

    Sick Spouse

It really depends on the nature of the sickness and facilities available. It also assumes there is a guest room to sleep in...

    Identifying Waste

I've done that many times, usually when I'm expecting my income to reduce in the foreseeable future. Before a couple of major life overhauls I went through everything. What I found useful was to trim things out of the budget and see if we noticed they were gone. If we didn't notice, or didn't...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Hoping to get a decent run in today. The last couple of days have seen the kind of cold that feels like it sticks to me, so no fun even trying to get out to run in that. Today is supposed to be fairly cold but I'm not feeling like the cold is sticking to me, so maybe a run will work out. I...

    Fruitcake

A friend of my parents used to make cakes semi-professionally. I tried one of her cakes and really didn't care for it. It had the same taste and texture as the ones I'd expect to find in a store. It tasted fake. It was awkward trying to figure a way to say that I really didn't need a fruitcake...

    Do you collect anything?

Many things in my house collect dust. I'm not sure that's what you're talking about though. Likewise I have a growing collection of bits of dead cable I've pulled out of my house during my renovation project. My collection of bits of scrap wood and offcuts only ever gets so large before it pays...

Have you had a good home made fruitcake? The store bought ones are nowhere near as good.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

I dumped Fitbit nearly four years ago and haven't looked back. I had a Fitbit One that I really liked but when it became unreliable I wanted to replace it with something similar. Fitbit "support" constantly pointed One users to some new thing they introduced that didn't track floors and...

    Fruitcake

I love it. My mother used to make an incredibly rich fruitcake that I'd look forward to every year. I think I have the recipe somewhere but it won't be the same if I make it. Maybe I'll see how it turns out if I do, if I can find all the ingredients.

Trump is selling $35 Christmas wrapping paper

Ha, I was going to say it's the sort of thing I wouldn't buy but in a free country people can spend their money however they want. Now I'm thinking of a couple of Trump haters who might enjoy the paper, although they are people I wouldn't ordinarily buy a present for let alone wrap it in $35 paper.

    'In the good old days'

Life is easier with digital everything but the deluge of useless emails, scams, data breaches etc makes me wonder if life has actually improved. You can barely do anything these days without signing up via email and downloading yet another app. Major household appliances used to last more or...
