    Morality

I don't see why morality can't exist without religion. We can all adopt our own moral standards, and accept a legal framework that imposes a minimum standard upon everyone in that society. We can accept that killing other people is generally wrong (with arguable exceptions for self-defence etc)...

    Duo euthanasia

Isn't this the same question you asked a couple of days ago but with a specific example? Why is this one sin any different to any other sin? Jesus said the only unforgivable sin was blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, so unless someone wants to claim that suicide represents such blasphemy it's...

Who will win the Super Bowl?

    I don't care.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

I tried running at the track. It was tedious. I don't think I'll be doing that any more, running minor variations of the same routes every time gets dull but not as dull as doing the same laps over and over.

    Take A Nap

I nap during the day if I get tired. A nap can be anything from 15 minutes to a chunk of the afternoon. It's rarely more than 15-30 minutes.

    Camilla

Since she's Queen Consort rather than Queen Regnant she will cease to be Queen and Prince William will become King William, with his wife becoming Queen Catherine. That said after the death of King George VI his wife Elizabeth was known as "Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother". She was also Queen...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

My suggested workout today is 45 minutes of base effort. I'm happy with that. I'm meeting some friends at my favorite brewpub this afternoon so don't need to be eating and drinking heartily soon after heavy exercise. I'm debating whether to run my usual shorter circuit or do some laps of the...

    Small fee or freewill offering?

It would depend on the event. The trouble with the small fee is that there's always someone who genuinely can't afford it, and then there's the issue of giving change and counting cash and all that. A freewill offering basket usually seems to result in more money coming in.

    Suicide is a sin

The same way you'd be repenting of any other sin if you died in the process of committing it, I guess. Unless you spend your waking moments endlessly repenting of every little thing you do wrong the minute you do it, the chances are you'll die without repenting of something. I'm not sure that a...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Yesterday I did a gentle-ish 5 mile run. Today I wanted to tick off a challenge to run a 15k this month and also a challenge to run a 5k this weekend. So I did a gentle-ish 10 mile run and ticked off both challenges with one workout. Surprisingly my legs don't hate me right now, but I don't know...

    Suicide is a sin

I think the best you'd find is the line of "thou shalt not kill" although given how often God sent the Israelites into battle with instructions to kill it's clearly not as simple an outright prohibition as some might like to think. According to Jesus the only unforgiveable sin is blasphemy...

    A groundbreaking verdict

It's alarming if poor judgment becomes tantamount to involuntary manslaughter. Certainly a spectacularly poor judgment that leads to murder shouldn't necessarily be immune from that possibility. Naturally as third party observers who have little more than what the media cares to report it's hard...

    A groundbreaking verdict

I'd certainly agree with being wary of psychological counselling. It can be beneficial as long as it's done properly, with a view to a goal other than figuring out what cocktail of mind altering drugs to use. That said it does seem a bit of an odd combination to specifically decline...

    Social Media

Most people I have much interest in following don't post personal stuff on social media, so it's not really much use for that. Then you get the over-sharers who might as well just tell their doctor to post their entire medical records on farcebook. It's more about trading jokes and one-liners.

    A groundbreaking verdict

From what I saw it looked like the issue was parental negligence rather than "your kids did something bad, it must be your fault". One flip side of the whole issue of parental responsibility is the way schools are increasingly taking it upon themselves to not inform parents. The whole...

I don't take any daily medication. I find it terrifying how many people take so many pills every day.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

My legs still don't like me after Monday's workout. The last couple of days have been walks rather than runs. I'm hoping to run again tomorrow, although speed repeats might wait until next week.

If you had the choice, would you prefer a Christian hospital?

I just want a doctor that knows what they are doing. I don't really care if there are crosses around or not. If God is going to heal me supernaturally he can do it with or without a cross, and if God isn't going to heal me supernaturally then having a cross around isn't going to make any...

    Presidential Immunity

It is curious to see the same Department of Justice that slow-walked the investigation into Hillary Clinton and her emails so as not to influence the 2016 election, and buried the Hunter Biden issues in 2020 to avoid influencing the election, now going after Trump in 2024 regardless of the...

    A groundbreaking verdict

If you have kids in the house you should adequately secure guns to make sure the kids can't get at them without permission. The obvious question is what happens if/when the kids figure out where the keys to the cabinets are. When my wife and I were fostering we had to keep our guns well...
