Jesus will save you if you.... ???

Could you clarify what you mean by "yes God still saves in these settings"? Do you think that there are things man has to do for salvation (justification)? You're marked as Lutheran, so I would think your answer would be no, but I'm curious what you believe.

    What is sin?

I guess I would start off with the definition of sin as "miss the mark". Then I'd explain how God is good and Holy and probably bring in the 10 commandments, since even unbelievers are somewhat familiar with the Christian commandments. I would want to find something that could help them...

    Confession of sins

So in the liturgy, when there is Holy Communion, the confession/absolution at the beginning is where the pastor stands in the stead and by the command of Christ. That simply means that God is giving you forgiveness, the same forgiveness won at the cross because the "keys" were given to His holy...

Jesus will save you if you.... ???

The separation is because the topic of the thread is Jesus will save you if you... Why keep inserting yourself back into the equation when Jesus is the one who saves us? You keep insisting about talking about the walk of the faithful (you know, those who are bound for eternal life)... So here...

Jesus will save you if you.... ???

I admit it but not for Justification. Your posts have led me to believe that you believe we have to participate in some way in order to receive salvation from God. Sanctification in the sense I am using it, is not the same as Justification. In Justification we are declared Not Guilty by...

Jesus will save you if you.... ???

I've answered fully...especially in regards to the question of this thread... We contribute nothing to our salvation; it's God's work to save us. Justification is God's work completely. We cooperate in sanctification, but it's God's working within us for that too.

For it is God who works in you

Confession made with the mouth is proof that God gives faith, not the cause of faith.

Jesus will save you if you.... ???

The verses say that we are not alone in repentance. And I do not say we don't have to repent. Please, I really wish you would respect me more instead of putting words into my mouth and making these false claims about what you think I believe. I'm very clear on my beliefs.

Jesus will save you if you.... ???

I agree that repentance is a gift...it's what God does within us...He repents us.

For it is God who works in you

The entire point is that God works in us. God saves us by giving us His forgiveness that was won at the cross and by grace through faith, we believe. Then God works in us to work out that salvation (not for since we already have it from Him). See all the work that God is doing within us? He...

Satan works by denying God's justice

I came across a video where one of our members here, I won't say his name unless he wants me to...but he said "Satan works by denying God's justice". I think that's a really profound statement. My thoughts are that If God isn't just and if God hasn't justified us, then Satan wins. He wins...

For it is God who works in you

Philippians 2:13 ... for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. A lot of people think that Philippians 2:12 means we work "for" our salvation, but that verse says "work out", not for. The next line, which is quoted above, shows how God is at work in His...

Jesus will save you if you.... ???

Please tell me then why you've said twice here in this thread that you have a part in your salvation? And you're misquoting me, so get it right if you wish for me to continue discussing with you.

    Confession of sins

My church is LCMS and we use the Lutheran Service Book which has multiple settings. The pastor has chosen to use different settings during different seasons or celebrations. Which service book do you use at your church?

Things the Lord won't do for you?

I'm an open book when it comes to my beliefs. No, this isn't a Lutheran board, but as a member here, I'm allowed to express my beliefs, am I not? We have a wide variety of denominations represented here on the site as well as on staff.

World Which country's politics, other than your own, are you most interested in?

I'm not into politics normally when it comes to other countries, but I do have friends in other countries who will mention things...and then I'll do some research. So far there isn't another country I'd rather live in due to their political situations.

Jesus will save you if you.... ???

So you believe we have to DO something for salvation? That's the point of THIS thread. My salvation is dependent solely on the work of Christ Jesus, crucified for my sins. You keep saying that you still need to do something in order to get salvation. Christians will serve God because they...

do you wear white garments ? ( no problem if you cannot afford or does not have it in surroundings:)

Being in a white garment is being clothed in Christ's righteousness, and that happens at our baptisms. Those who are worthy have had their sins washed away in baptism, making them clean.
