    Wake up call

Francis is no longer a Jesuit. As pope he cannot be a member of the Jesuits in obedience to the head of the Jesuit order. The Jesuit order is in obedience to the pope. That is part of their reason for existing.

USA Patiently waiting for the results ...

It may be that the alleged ties are fictitious or if not then casual. But the USA is a very divided nation as far as their politics goes.

    Social activism - people power

The packing in Australia is neither forced at children nor aimed at reaching them. There is no design to mislead manipulate or otherwise use children for nefarious purposes. The packaging is blatant, direct, even scary and deliberately so. That children - once they learn to read and have...

    Basmati rice

Tonight's cooking is a little red lentils, some split yellow peas, some pearl barley, some split green peas, some pepper, some bacon, some paprika, some chilli powder, and some tomatoes all in one pot slowly simmering until they are legumes are soft and/or falling apart and the bacon is nicely...

USA Patiently waiting for the results ...

The timing is interesting in both cases and I do not doubt that there is a degree of opportunism in it. Donald Trump's accusers likely were prompted into revealing their claimed encounters with him because he offered a blanket denial of ever having done any of the things he mentioned in the bus...

    Social activism - people power

Parents and teachers in schools teach children all sorts of things that they do not have the ability to critically evaluate. It's part of learning as a child. When a child is old enough to recognise the message in the warmings and pictures on the standardised cigarette packaging used in...

Halloween? Your thoughts..... is it okay to celebrate?

I agree. If somebody wants to avoid association with pumpkins and costumes on All Saints Eve then that's okay with me. Some people avoid bacon and pork and anything from a pig because they consider it unclean and that's okay too. I like bacon and it isn't ceremonially unclean for me. I don't do...

Halloween? Your thoughts..... is it okay to celebrate?

All hallows eve is all saints eve. The eve before all saints day. Halloween does not mean "evil satanic rites night". Halloween (n.) also Hallow-e'en, Hallow e'en, 1781, in a Scottish context, the word and the magical lore about the date were popularized by Burns' poem (1785, and he...

Is Christ's shed blood able to wash away all sins or not?

We've had a thread about naming the sins for which Christ did not die in CH for a while now. As the discussion in that thread progresses a sin - at least one - was pointed to as one for which Christ did not die. That sin was the unforgivable sin - the sin that the Lord Jesus Christ referred to...

USA Patiently waiting for the results ...

Now that the debates are over and the focus is not so sharp on the candidates' policies we are left with nothing else than to patiently wait for the election and the results. Will Donald Trump win? Will the Republican Party retain control of Senate and House? Or is the USA voting public in the...

My reply was to Krissy Cakes and her view was affirmed. Perhaps you misapplied my post to somebody else?

    A Gutsy Preacher

Believe is a verb. A person believes a proposition. For example I believe that the doctrine of the most holy and blessed Trinity is true. To not believe is not a verb. A person need do nothing to not believe a proposition. For example I do not believe that there are faeries at the bottom of my...

    Social activism - people power

Tobacco companies would not advertise cigarettes if the advertising didn't have a measurable positive outcome for their profits. Even if they need to fund anti-smoking advertising they must still see a positive outcome for their profits in advertising cigarettes. I'd like it better if the USA...

Halloween? Your thoughts..... is it okay to celebrate?

Exactly. It's what you make of it. If you go out to give your children some safe fun under parental supervision then there's nothing wicked in doing that. For some a day or an item such as a costume is demon haunted and the wold around them is filled with wicked spirit creatures seeking to...

    USA Health care costs

Why is health care so much cheaper in Canada? I've seen comparisons between western nations showing how much money per capita goes into health systems and the USA is about double the amount that countries like Canada & Australia pay yet both Canada & Australia have universal health care systems...

    Basmati rice

I always cook something with it. Onions, corn & peas, Bacon & tomatoes, something with flavour and I usually add spices to it. I also use it with sauces like Satay sauce & chicken. It is good rice :)
