    Trends on church attendance

I do not know what the situation is in all of Australia but in the archdiocese of Perth numbers are growing. I do know that Anglicanism is in decline, so is the Salvation Army, Baptists too, and the Church of Christ. The Presbyterian church that I used to attend has closed in my locale but they...

    Gift of Tongues

I knew a man who "spoke in tongues" this way "bushandi kiyama yama tikka kiyama oh kiyama" But he stopped going to meetings and as far as I know became an effective atheist.

Why do Christians think God talks with them?

The holy scriptures urge Christians to "test the spirits" because many "false prophets have gone out into the world". With that advice given to the disciples of the Apostles of Christ it is very dangerous for people 2,000 years later to dismiss it and accept any old thing that is claimed just as...

Why do Christians think God talks with them?

Yes, they prefer "the Lord told me" to "Thus spake the Lord" or "The word of the Lord to thee is ..." that way it is vague and can be dismissed without any effort because it is "just how that person felt at that time" and "not a prophecy". The thing is that the claim is constantly made that the...

Why do Christians think God talks with them?

In the Assembly of God meeting that I attended in the past it was common to have one or two people speak out loudly (either standing or sitting) to say something innocuous. They spoke in King James style and said things like "The Lord is with thee to bless thee and make thy seed to grow and thou...

    Gift of Tongues

Very little of the claimed "speaking in tongues" is properly tested nowadays. People just make a youtube video and say "Hey, I was sitting in my bedroom praying and all of a sudden I felt a desire to praise God and out came these words and sounds that were in a language I never learned before...

    Sinners Prayer in the Bible?

Nobody is flipped. The questions and exorcism are ancient parts of the liturgy, possibly from the second century AD but translated into English. I think that chrism oil is olive oil.

    Sinners Prayer in the Bible?

No. The priest prays and so does the catechumen. The holy water is applied in baptism. So is chrism oil. Then the newly baptised is confirmed and chrism oil is applied again.
