So... What are YOU doing? - Part 4

I just finished cooking some chicken in peanut sauce with vegetables and nice diced tomatoes. Now I am cooking rice with a little pasta mixed in. Soon, God willing, I shall eat some of the chicken and sauce and all of the rice & pasta :) :lick:

Bishops are not rabbis. Bishops are not teachers or sages or wise men even though a good bishop is a teacher and sagely and has wisdom because a bishop is Christ's minister. A rabbi is a teacher who teaches from the accumulated writings of other rabbis who have annotations recorded in the Talmud...

What's so "good" about off the cuff prayers compared to written ones?

Thoughtful prayer is good whenever the thoughts are godly and I think that godly thoughts are promoted by reading a psalm and a prayer like the Lord's prayer and the heart soon is subdued to the obedience of God when the thoughts are godly and then the written prayer is a prayer of the heart. No...

That was funny. I hope it wasn't a church "service" ... but even if it was it was good entertainment :P

What's better "vaporub" or a no-name chest rub that is cheaper by half or more?

I am hoping to receive "last rights" when the time comes - a happy death will be good when it comes.

What's so "good" about off the cuff prayers compared to written ones?

From whose heart? The holy scriptures warn of the deceitfulness of the human heart saying "Who can understand the human heart? There is nothing else so deceitful; it is too sick to be healed. So I wonder if being from the heart is such a good thing that it makes an off the cuff prayer superior...

"Do you love God?" or is the "you" in that question self salvation?

I can't help but remember Jesus saying to Peter "do you love me?". He said it three times. The reply was "yes" with variant additions. Do you think Peter loved Jesus or was Peter not participating in the love which was wholly and completely the work of Christ (presumably in Peter)?

Judaism is partly right and partly wrong just as Islam, Hinduism, animism, witchcraft, and every other human religion is partly right and partly wrong. Christianity is also partly right and partly wrong but in the case of Christianity the rightness and wrongness has to do with the degree to...

What's so "good" about off the cuff prayers compared to written ones?

I've told the story, here in CH, of the Baptist meeting to which several members of my Parish church were invited including myself and at which the host prayed for 25 minutes of the allotted 30 minute prayer time saying variations on "Lord we thank you for the blue sky, the warm sun, the birds...

Yes, that is correct. I do not think of rabbi and bishop as synonymous concepts. A rabbi is a religious teacher. Specifically a Jewish religious teacher. A bishop pastors the flock of God and his primary role is to serve the faithful. He teaches but he is not their teacher. Their teacher is...

A bishop is not a rabbi. Bishops are pastors of the faithful, leaders who lead by example and by self sacrifice when necessary. Of course bishops are fallible and sin prone as are nearly all of the faithful and some have been terrible disappointments even wicked like Judas Iscariot the apostle...

Good power is shared it is never used to dominate others.

The one word answer to your claim is "nonsense" and the evidence against it is a huge literature from Catholics and from the Church too that contradicts what you wrote. Have you never read "The Lord of the Rings"? It's one constant theme is that Good power is shared it is never used to dominate...

"Do you love God?" or is the "you" in that question self salvation?

"Do you love God?" or is the "you" in that question self salvation? Some complain that the idea that a Christian can do anything to save themselves is utterly unchristian and that everything is done by Christ in his saving work which cannot be added to by anything that a human being does...

Does your internet take you away from church attendance?

I meet a lot of people online who say that they get all the fellowship that they need in chat forums and facebook and real-time chats with christian friends so they do not attend church. Do you think that is okay? Does your internet take you away from church attendance? And before you complain...
