    Moral questions and legan fiat

Marriages are something that people do. God gave commandments to Israel about how to handle a marriage and how to terminate one. Jesus gave Christians a different perspective on marriages indicating that they cannot be terminated except by the death of one (or both) of the married people...

    Blood Curse?

I'd walk out on the recording for the same reasons that I'd walk out on his sermon when it was delivered. His teaching is wicked and heresy so even if he is completely sincere about it he is still preaching error and I do not want to support it.

    Blood Curse?

If it were me sitting in that meeting with him preaching like that I'd walk out. I'd do it quietly but I would not stay to listen to that sort of thing.

Trump may sign new executive order on health care soon

True. Very true. Fortunately I have citizenship in Canada, the UK, and Australia. I also have Swedish citizenship and they have universal health cover too. It's all good for me :P

UK people also live longer (on average) than USA people. Gotta think that universal health cover helps.

    Blood Curse?

Who can say with complete confidence why the Nazi murder of millions of European Jews happened but it did. If God is a mean spirited grudge keeper then maybe the words "His blood be on us, and on our children" were God's motive for arranging to have Nazis kill Jews but then why did twenty...

Trump may sign new executive order on health care soon

If I lived in the USA I'd move to Canada :P Canadians have universal health care. That is probably why they live longer (on average) than USA people. People in Australia also live longer (on average) than do USA people. Good medical care probably extends life by a number of years (on average).

    Voting your moral values.

On the theory that if your "guy" did not get elected then you "threw away your vote" and that voting for somebody who is less than 50% likely to be elected is throwing away your vote it follows that moral values play no significant role in voting in the USA for people who subscribe to the "throw...

    Trends on church attendance

Nor for me. CH is a kind of live entertainment. The people matter but the "gathering" is asynchronous. I type a post and it does not matter if I see an answer within a hour or a day. In face to face conversation it would be rude to ignore a comment from an acquaintance or a friend if you heard it.

( Insert Church here) by Choice and Why Thread

I became a Catholic without any specific prayer. I was not aiming for a liturgical church. I was not looking for something with a long history. I was not keen on air-tight doctrine. Nor was I keen on loosely defined doctrine. I'd come to appreciate that in my atheist world view goodness could be...

    Faith hope and charity

I was thinking about the vocabulary difference, Josiah. So I chose the thread title not so much as a partial quote from First Corinthians but more as a recognition that vocabulary can play a major role in disputes. Paul wrote about hope - In hope, we already have salvation; in hope, not visibly...

    Faith hope and charity

Yes, Peter Kreeft says as much and the joint declaration on Justification between some Lutherans and the Catholic Church observed the difference in vocabulary.

    Faith hope and charity

Faith is about belief, hope is about what one longs for and acts as a motive, love (also called charity) is about ... what exactly? Catholics think of faith as intellectual assent. Hope we know from what Paul says, it is what saves us. It is also about something we do not yet possess. He says...

    Gift of Tongues

There are plenty of those too. When I do a search for "mass" on youtube the first few pages are from Protestant people telling us how wicked the mass is.

    Gift of Tongues

I am not hasty about condemning them. The youtube people "speaking in tongues" are probably just speaking gibberish because all the people they know at the meeting that they attend do it too.
