Predestination Romans 9 Potter and clay

There's no reason to think that God's plan was to arrange to have a dishonorable creature (Adam)...so that He could then punish Adam and his descendants. The only way that the Genesis account holds together is if the first humans were given Free Will and were able--as the lower forms of life...

    Stardust and LCMS

Hmmm. According to Genesis, it appears that the stars were created on Day 4 and man on Day 6. And I'm sure that almost every Christian denomination, whether Catholic or Protestant, teaches it that way. As for the matter of stardust vs. soil, wouldn't the stardust that exploded into the planets...

    Collective Guilt

We all have to decide for ourselves on the matter of a valid church body. Hopefully, no one would say that if one church has gone onto the rocks, so to speak, that just any other one would suffice. Of course not. Doctrine would have to be acceptable, and so on. But still, there can be...

Who is "him that justifieth the ungodly"?

It was asked, on another thread, what Faith means; and I think we've noticed that the poster you are replying to here and now has used that word merely to refer to being confident about something or other. That's not what Faith in the Scriptural sense is all about. If that were what the term...

    Collective Guilt

No. However, I can see a case being made that every citizen ought to do something towards countering that problem, rather than merely accepting it with regret. Possibly. After all, this question differs from the question about a country that did something bad. In at least two ways. First, we...

    Faith

I get that such is your view of things, and you're not about to hear of anything different, so why don't we come up with a new topic of discussion? Still on Christian Theology, of course.

    Faith

I'm sure that there are such people, but the church has typically understood and taught the message correctly, so I hope you agree that when we're discussing these things it's a good policy not to make it sound as though Christianity has lost its way, etc.

    Faith

I think we all know that. Faith isn't a physical object, etc. Yes, actually he is. Again, you define Faith as a mere "by-product" of Election that is experienced automatically by those few whom God has chosen from all eternity to save. However, in the verse you cited here (Jn 6:53) and in the...

Who is "him that justifieth the ungodly"?

So, you've defined sheep there as people who were not justified in advance. But the verse itself doesn't say that. So, this is one person's guess. Yours, in this case. Rather than being a reference to an Elect or even to the Jewish people, the reference in John 10 is normally understood to be...

Who is "him that justifieth the ungodly"?

In addition, there must be plenty of people who belong to those churches, believe in Christ, and assume that they are among the elect because they do believe...whereas they might just be lost souls who are fooling themselves (if what Bf52 has been telling us here were actually correct).

Who is "him that justifieth the ungodly"?

Well, I did think that was your perspective, but virtually no church agrees with the idea that Faith is merely "a by product." What's more, I don't see any room for arguing that it is only a "by product" if we turn to the Bible for its own treatment of Faith (which is extensive).

    Easter Sunrise Services

Or do what the Eastern Christian churches have long done. That is to have what some today might call a "watch service" in which the congregation assembles before sunrise on Easter and before the celebratory worship service, waiting in the dark for the dawn to break...somewhat like what the women...

Who is "him that justifieth the ungodly"?

However you word it, Faith is an essential, and that means that your scenario is missing something. That's so imprecise as to be of no value to us. "Those who Christ died for are justified." Well, yes, we weren't thinking that there are some people he didn't die for but who are nevertheless...

Who is "him that justifieth the ungodly"?

Shall I take it that you don't have an answer to the question then? Nothing other than the obvious, which is that Christ died for sinners--a point that no one here seems to dispute? Obviously, if everyone kept the law perfectly, there wouldn't have been the Incarnation, Calvary, or any of that...

Who is "him that justifieth the ungodly"?

Meaning what, exactly? I think we all understand and believe that Christ made something possible and that some people who wouldn't otherwise have been eligible have been saved as a result. That's not really under scrutiny here, but exactly 'how' and for 'whom' are. :)

Who is "him that justifieth the ungodly"?

All of that is rather obvious and not particularly controversial, so what is your message to us? It looks like you are intent upon converting us to some better way of thinking about the process of salvation; but Faith saves, thanks to what Christ did for us, and anyone who doesn't come to that...

    The Salvation of Jesus Christ

How about explaining what you think the above statement means? We all believe that salvation is accomplished only because God permits it, and we all know that it's not by earthly doing or the devices of mere mortals that it's done instead. So, where exactly do you depart from the normal...

Who is "him that justifieth the ungodly"?

Well, duh, they don't remain lost in their sins if they are saved through Faith. That's why the "detracts" claim is silly, Your position has been presented in a somewhat unclear way IMHO, but it appears to me that you are convinced that people--believers in this case--must save themselves by...
