    Harm Reduction

The way I understand it, the person involved is very much an active participant. Harm reduction involves them as much as society and societal/familial costs; hence the reason for "pragmatic, realistic and low threshold programs". Society can't provide anything that the person or 'concerned...

    Harm Reduction

That's the tricky part. What gets addressed is the harm that results from the use - which is looked at as a symptom only. Much of the time, the result of addressing the harm (relational, homelessness, unsafe use, sex trade involvement - to be blunt...) is reduction of drug use. Even if reduction...

    Domestic tips and tricks

Oh, absolutely. That just stood out to me. My mom had me using one when I was a kid instead of a longer cycle. And it'd be good for dirt/mud around pant-cuffs I'll do that with my 'whites' soon. They need it badly.

    Domestic tips and tricks

Ah yes, good ol' scrub-board! That's where a basin in the laundry room would come in handy. I do tend to give my laundry a good 'shake' before washing and drying both, too

    Domestic tips and tricks

I've done that a few times. There's no basin in the laundry room (fun!) so I lug it down the hall from the bathroom. I'm doing it in small loads with soap rubbed into the clothing - it's only cheap dollar store soap anyway - and double rinsed. That's working (no-one said I couldn't use as much...

    "Glitter Tongue" anyone?

I'll admit my tongue did have a similar 'ashen' look the last time I took a "Pepto", but it was a common side effect. Glitter? No thanks

    "Glitter Tongue" anyone?

I would think so. Similar to a kid eating paste?

    Harm Reduction

So as not to hijack another thread, I thought I'd share some information about the "harm reduction" model. The attached is from the British Columbia Harm Reduction Community Guide - sort of a 'layman's' guide to B.C. policy regarding substance misuse treatment.

    Chemical imbalance vs Behavioral

Have harm reduction advocates had much of a voice yet, or is that still north of the border? Initially, I think it was a concept borrowed from Australia

    Chemical imbalance vs Behavioral

It's hard, sometimes, to see the value of something outside the Christian world-view, I think. But I'll just say that science does not "prove", it only points to a possible correlation between variables. The higher the correlation, the more reasonably sure science is that a relationship exists...

    Domestic tips and tricks

Okay tipsters and tricksters - here's one. I made a tragic mistake. The young kids where I live use an old T-shirt as a 'hot pad' for the oven. It reeked. So I washed it with a bunch of my stuff (can you see what's coming...?). My stuff reeks. Bad. After three washes. The landlord only allows...

Is a 'Hot Dog' a sandwich?

The link says your attachment is "invalid". Does that mean a hot dog is not a sandwich?

    Domestic tips and tricks

I agree. I always prefer hand washing. If I use a dishwasher, I'm the one that pre-rinses the dishes to the point that they're almost clean anyway. Why bother?
