So... What are YOU doing? - Part 4

Went into the kitchen to warm up a cup of coffee. Coffee's in the microwave, so I go in the washroom to brush my teeth. I hear noises in the kitchen of the microwave door being opened and someone bumping the cup of coffee. I come out, open the microwave door, and coffee is spilled all over the...

    the meaning of Baptism

Then there's always that 'Peter' fellow (although he was a Catholic from what I hear...) "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins..."

This remains your answer after you posted a study of the passage stating otherwise, as well as the commentaries I posted. If theologians can't convince you, I don't think I'm going to be able to.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 4

Going to have a look at an apartment this morning. Not the end of town I want to be in, though. It's far enough out of the 'sketchy' end that it's worth a look. We'll see. But I need to get out of where I am. Then off to the MCC thrift store for furniture shopping. They usually have decent stuff

    the meaning of Baptism

I only perused it as I'm a little short on time, but I'll come back to it. But what I noticed is that the author does not deny that water baptism is being spoken of as well as spiritual. He does adhere to the idea that water baptism is a symbolic act, which I don't, but he nowhere says that...

    the meaning of Baptism

Expositors would disagree. Here are some that are interesting on the topic: http://biblehub.com/commentaries/romans/6-3.htm I found this quote to be rather telling:

    the meaning of Baptism

Of course we don't physically die. Just as we don't undergo a physical circumcision of the heart. Yet Paul states that: "...he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter;" Your conclusion falls on fallacious reasoning in...

    the meaning of Baptism

No. There's nothing miraculous about the water. It holds no special properties. Water is water. The Apostle Paul, however, answers your first objections quite well: Show that Paul was not suggesting some redemptive purpose in baptism.

    the meaning of Baptism

What meaning of "entire" do you suggest? There is also literally no exception noted. But if one must force "entire household" to no longer mean "100% of the people", then I guess the horrible hermeneutics would lie with you.

    the meaning of Baptism

If by context you mean there isn't a specific statement where "Apostle 'X' took infant 'Y' and baptized him in the name of...", you'd be right. But it ignores another meaning of "context": Show me how this verse does not fall under "interrelated conditions" (i.e. historical context): The...

No worries. The 'need to know' in that sentence is "Detroit Lions are inept"

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 4

Learning that the Detroit Lions really are so inept that the Cleveland Browns (record: 0-8) are giving them a challenge. 0-8.
