    Still wonderful

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 5

Getting ready for bed. Moving day today.

    Okay, let's talk about predestination

The bible should not be read like other books. It is full of culture, context, meaning, metaphor, mistranslated verbiage, on and on ad nauseam. If it were not, we'd be in full agreement, and could effectively close the thread. But because we have those that refuse to consider culture, context...

    Okay, let's talk about predestination

That's more a Baptist thing, isn't it? I suppose it depends on how strict a Calvinist the Presbyterian is.

Sounds good. I miss places like that. You order that in the U.S. or Canada and it's about 8 euro ($9.50 or so)

What are you listening to? - Part 2

Heard recently. I love to time travel ;)

    Define "works"

I've left your post intact, but I want you to notice what I put in bold print and underlined. That's what I'm referring to with this quote from James, who states plainly what "religious works" leads to:

When do you put the Christmas tree up?

My mom had ordered one set, and I had been rather envious of it - the style and shading. The ornaments themselves are rather dense and heavy - well made. She had the second set at her home for some time, but hadn't given it to me until a few years ago. Mom's are strange ;) As far as the wolves...

When do you put the Christmas tree up?

I have a small metal frame 'tree' with pewter wolf ornaments that I'll be displaying (table-top), along with some "Jim Shore" figurines and other knick-knacks. It may all go out next week or so.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 5

Was out with one of the youth from our group program today and we'd found a community park to go for a walk. I'll have to remember where this one is - it'd be good to start getting some exercise again and seeing how my knees do with some walking a few times a week to start. It has a trail around...

    Define "works"

So would this apply to what was talked about in the linked article - that there is a different 'sense' to justification that includes "works", being separate from another sense of the word (justification that is by faith)?

    Okay, let's talk about predestination

Okay... so where scripture says "the whole world" it doesn't mean the whole world; and where it doesn't say "the whole world" it also doesn't mean the whole world. Got it. Does this also count for "whosoever"?

    Define "works"

It was brought into the discussion in post 14. You'd addressed the link and suggested it said something it didn't. MC answered.

    Define "works"

I always hate it when people look things up :)
  15. ImaginaryDay2

    Define "works"

Let's say 'both'. How would you define "works" in those contexts? Yes, I do. Hmmm... See my response to MC. Does that make a difference, or would you hold the same opinion?
  16. ImaginaryDay2

    Define "works"

An excellent point. So our response in obedience to God's command is different from "works" (or some variation of it - i.e. faith making the difference)?
  17. ImaginaryDay2

    Define "works"

I'm asking for the poster's definition of "works". If you say "by grace and not by works" what do you mean by "works"? Giving? Tithing? Feeding the poor? Shoveling the walk for the disabled senior next door? A statement such as "Yes, Lord, I accept you"? I ask because "works" seems to be one of...

    Okay, let's talk about predestination

Suggesting Josiah is a synergist is a flame if I've ever heard one! :D (not really a flame, I'm joking...)

    Define "works"

It's often bandied about (sometimes as a jab, sometimes not) that our salvation is not based on "works". When (if) you say that salvation is not dependent on "works", what do you mean? How do you define "works"; rather, if I saw you "working", what would you be doing?
