The Official Chat Thread - Part 3

went out to eat last night at a steak place and had a good meal. I usually pick the same things, but I picked a dish I had never tried before. It was a baked chicken with a cream of some kind on it and tomato and green peppers and corn. It was quite spicy The movie choices at the theater don't...

I'm not sure what you mean by stress disorder? Good job on losing the weight. Sounds like your doing what you can.

    Are your sermons long?

Yeah, I think that was me. He actually wasn't my pastor. I heard him once in person and once online. I think a sermon over 30 minutes is excessive since most people's attention spans are not that long. At the church I currently go to the pastor keeps it to about 25 minutes or so.

Church peer pressure does it happen to you?

I'm not a member of a church and haven't been for about 11 years now. There is a non denominational church that seems very rigid in its beliefs and it did stop fellowship with a few people a year or so ago and that caused some controversy. The pastor seems really sensitive to any criticism...

    discipleship

When I was a kid I was in the Methodist church and we had a confirmation class in the 3rd grade. I can't remember how many weeks it went. I did it because everyone else was doing it and don't actually remember much about it. The pastor did have to ask me my name before he baptized me after...

    discipleship

We are all working through three booklets together. We signed a commitment at the first week. So, others have the right to ask us if we are working in our books, having our quiet times and if we stop showing up to the group they have a right to say something to us.

    discipleship

I started going to a men's group last Wednesday night. We are studying this material that starting talking about the building blocks of discipleship. In it, the material mentions that the group members are holding each other accountable to have a quiet time regularly. I learned fairly early...

    Those icky Christians!

Most of my clients will self identify as christians even if they don't go to church. I think it is because they see the lack of maturity in the church and that most believers aren't much different than the world. Which is true

    Approaching non-believers with patient dialog

I look for opportunities where I can to share my faith and what i am learning, but I try not to shove a door open that isn't open. I mentioned Jesus to one of my clients recently quoting a verse and was told that she is Buddhist. But, she didn't have any comment about the verse I shared.

Are liberal colleges a threat to Christians

No. I don't think that would cause me to stop. But, my kids are grown and it is their decision where to go to school.

Changed Morality in the Catholic Church

I wonder what the Catholic church makes of it that God ordered some people executed in the Old Testament. If the death penalty is so bad when was it okay for the Israelites to carry it out in the Old Testament at God's command? The Old Testament Law prescribed the death penalty for an...

    Doctors office policy

I am sent a survey to fill out every time I see a doctor in our network. One of the questions is always how late I was made to wait for the doctor past the appointment time. I can say they usually have a good track record. Only once or twice have I had to wait pass 15 minutes after the...

    Doctors office policy

I was just curious about what others experiences are with professionals you have an appointment with such as a doctor or specialist? Do they charge you if you don't show up or cancel late? Do they limit the number of times that you can cancel or reschedule? I'm fairly sure that if I don't...
