Happy Birthday Cant think of a name

Many thanks. My father passed away the beginning of this month and I went to the funeral last week. It's a strange time for me.

Salvation not based on our merit

The entire New Testament very much changes the fact that YOU chose to believe, especially Philippians 1:29. You are welcome to exegete that passage of scripture for me so that you can prove you chose God and then He saved you and not the other way around.

Salvation not based on our merit

Believe in Jesus and the gospel. Clearly that is not enough. The word "enabling" denotes a partnership with God and "God doesn't believe for us" depicts an impotent God. God does not require anybody's permission to do anything, including waiting for your input of faith. But if you believe you...

Salvation not based on our merit

Yes but that doesn't address the point that a person can believe their whole life and not be saved until God steps in and gives them saving faith.

Salvation not based on our merit

And this is what it all leads to and boils down to in the end. Grace does it all. Every denomination of Christianity admits this, except the cults. The only exception is the Arminian with their prevenient grace, which essentially claims God begins the work but people have to RESPOND to it with...

Salvation not based on our merit

It is decidedly completely different. I don't know how you can square a) someone choosing Jesus and b) Jesus choosing them. They are completely opposite and the scriptures appear to show both at the same time. I can only speak for myself and what happened TO me.

Salvation not based on our merit

There's a difference between belief and saving faith. I believed in Jesus my entire life and wasn't saved until I was 34. I had nothing to do with it.

Salvation not based on our merit

That is your experience. Others have the different and other experience where God gives them the faith to believe. See Philippians 1:29

    Time spent studying your Bible?

I don't read the Bible every day but I do read Christian books that contain scripture verses. I don't think I spend enough time reading the Bible as I would like to. When I do pick it up I tend to binge read all the NT Epistles in one go.

Salvation not based on our merit

What you just wrote is completely Biblical. But for some reason, a lot of people have a problem with it. It's so simple but people like arguing.

USA What's Trump's worst policy since elected 2024?

IF any innocent people have died because of Trump doing this, he is a heartless devil. He seems to be a playboy, a man on a mission to try to help but also a kind of loose cannon. It is scary to think that man is in charge of the USA and by extension the world. If we consider that these South...

Here's why the "free will" argument cannot be justified if God is all good

I actually embraced the Reformed doctrines of grace to a certain extent around 5 years after I was saved because they made sense of some of the experience I had of God when He saved me. It was all brand new to me at that time. I grew up Catholic and religion meant little to me in my teens. I...

    Prayers for my Dad

I'm humbly asking anybody that reads this to please pray for my Dad, he is about to die. He was not saved, though I tried for years to share with him. I do not want him to go to hell.

Here's why the "free will" argument cannot be justified if God is all good

It is inexplicable that God can be a God of love and humans to not have free will. I recently thought that Jesus told the Pharisees that if they didn't accept him they would die in their sins, but this doesn't necessarily mean they would go to hell. I didn't seek for God because I was afraid...

Here's why the "free will" argument cannot be justified if God is all good

I don't think the question is about choosing holiness but more about having any choice at all. The Bible tells us to seek for God.

The actual Body and Blood, or just symbolic?

That sounds mystical. Like you would have some spiritual experience by eating the wafer and drinking the wine. I don't subscribe to that personally. In fact, it could even be considered demonic in some examples.

The actual Body and Blood, or just symbolic?

Because you made it sound like if people in that church did not take communion they would die. I was being tongue in cheek a bit. The point I made is that not taking communion doesn't cause people to be sick and die. It is taking it while living in sin that seems to do that. And Jesus is not...
