    Jesus knocking at the door is scripture addressing believers. Our response does not contribute to what God has already given to us. It does not add to it in any way or make it more solid.

    I hope I have never suggested that God's righteousness is passive. Only our reception of it is termed passive because we do nothing but receive what He freely gives. Our reception isn't active in the way some think we have to reach out and take it or open it.

    Do you not believed that we are saved "by grace through faith"? Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith If the Holy Spirit gives you faith to believe then you are saved "by grace through faith". There is no...but then you must...because you have faith given by the Holy Spirit.

    I don't think that the psalms are without doctrine. There are 5 types of Psalms (prophecy, instruction, comfort, prayer and thanks). In the churches I've attended we generally chant the psalms because they were meant to be sung. There is a pattern taken from the Jewish synagogue of singing...

    God uses His word to bring us to faith. We can definitely be shown our foolishness and sin through God's Law. But the unbeliever can't repent and turn to God. It's God who turns us to Him.
